It's no biggie. I sometimes forget my grandkids names. My wife on the other hand will remember a name forever with just the first meeting. She's a retired teacher/counselor. I still get surprised with her name memory.

I'm no good with names, but I can't remember faces.

How in the hell does our Head Football Coach not know the first name of one of his recruits? One of his recruits in his own damn backyard?

You think the lack of engagement by the Head Coach might have something to do with losing these recruits? Ask yourself if this is the sign of a Head Coach that is fully engaged in the recruitment process.

I understand your disgust at losing the players we lost at the end, but that is a ridiculous post. Think about it.

What the heck happened? I ask because I thought I saw USM finished 4th overall in C-USA in 2014 recruiting. Is that really that bad or did I miss something?

We were as high as second place last night but finished sixth in the conference after having seven kids flip on signing day. I know at least one of our late afternoon signees was a kid who had signed with nw ms cc earlier in the day and only got an offer because of kids signing elsewhere. He could not have been the only one, and that is what most of the complaining is about.

that pretty much nails it regarding the b!tch troop....

Having said this, we now have a group of kids with unseen potential. I have faith our coaching staff will do the things necessary to educate these young men to their best of their ability.

Our former super star recruits have been nothing but fail.....we just aren't that type of school.

I say welcome gents, and work your arse off to be the best PERSON you can be....it will translate to future success.

Good luck and make it happen!

If I remember correctly Battery Boy was a top recruit and get for us.. He was a bust..

Give me a kid that's hungry and wants to make a name for himself, he'll out work those other guys.. I'm reminded of this kid from Franklin County that's playing with the Patriots right now.

I'm going to reference the post game player interview psyche after the super bowl....those boys had and will continue to have a mission and appreciated the challenge of being underrated....

Late to the party but I think this is a fairly weak critique.

-How many players has he recruited over the last year? It isn't like he has been around these guys for years, either.

-Given that it is signing day, Monken has probably been sustaining himself on Red Bull alone for the last 72 hours.

That....that just isn't true.

We lost a guy to MTSU and Ohio. Who else didn't go to a power conference (and don't say AAC doesn't count. Like it or not they had a BCS team and we didn't)

Yeah but that kid was a three star recruit with an offer from Auburn in hand. I read a post a little while back where someone said that it is far more telling to look at the schools that recruited a kid than it is to look at the stars. I agree with that. If you look at the schools that were recruiting the kids we picked up yesterday, it doesn't look good.

As far as Alford goes: He was a four star athlete. Anyone who watched the kid that lived outside the Piney Woods knew that he wasn't going to be a D1 QB, though. In his defense as a QB, though, he was running a joke of a scheme as a true freshman.

Yeah, I want a kid who is hungry and wants to make a name for himself, too. But there are p

From what I recall, S. Miss built their former empire on just such kids....talent that no one else saw or recruited.

It would be more appropriate to say we built ourselves up on talent that we saw before others did. A lot of the kids we recruited we first discovered as raw, talented underclass men or else were playing at small schools way back in the woods. Many of them ended up being "discovered" by big name programs as signing day approached, but by then they had two years or more of southern miss recruiting behind them. It is getting hard to do that these days with bloated big boy budgets leading to recruiters watching, in some cases, seventh grade teams live.

It also used to be very rare for kids to flip this late. Especially on signing day.
