If only their HS had more facilities, that child would have gone to a FBS school, he woulda been drafted by the Seattle Seahawks, He would have been a contender.

Joe Flacco should have gone to an FBS school, he might have amounted to something.

please don't feed him. he's difficult enough to ignore when only our own argue with him

The only thing I would find as a detriment about athletes signing to below D1 schools, is that being able to get a D1 scholarship (at least in THIS state) provides a much more valuable education than say, Miles or UNA.

Since I have always believed that what a student makes of his/her education is their own responsibility, the level of the school's classification in sports is not critical to their success as a student. I did hear, or read about coaches interfering with an athlete's course selection since their concern was more for maintaining the player's continued eligibility than what he wanted to prepare to become after college.

My point was to ask that people look at which high schools DID have those 10 signees and see what can be learned from what they generally have in common. From the list I see, they are almost all suburban, above state average for funding (they have strong LOCAL TAX support) and can afford (c.$100,000) the best coaches (who, BTW, usually meet NO daily classes). Except for Vigor, the ONLY Alabama high school that had more than one AU / UA D1 signee (3, in fact) was St Pauls, a private school somewhere in Mobile.

UA - Calera, Hoover, Auburn, Hillcrest
AU - Opelika, Oxford, Prattville, Vigor(2).

Sorry to get into this so late, but the above statement is just not true.Takes Miles for example, can you honestly say that a degree from Miles is not equal to one from a D1 school.

Okay now back to the original comment, 3 star by some 2 by others, Charles Buchannon Pleasant grove RB, had offers from So. Miss, Middle Tenn, Minnesota to name a few.
Coach McGee attended the same church with the Kid, and Buchannon attended UAB football camp.

Buchannon when he won the Atlanta Nike Sparta ( by the way he beat out many 4-5 star players for the award ) was wearing UAB gear.

He competed in the Nike Oregon event called The Opening with some of the top 300 players in America, by all accounts he held his own and his team won the 7 on 7.

His parents are UAB people who attends games and are Boosters...He was raised a BLAZER!!!! and could be seen wearing the Green and Gold at Pleasant grove.

Grades were no problem so he could have to attended any of the schools listed, but UAB didnt offer, so he chose his second favorite Alabama A&M.

And as so far as DI education vs Miles UNA and I guess you have to include ALABAMA A&M, REMEMBER. Most of UAB current coaching staff attended a small college.

I usually agree with most of your posts, and I'm not exactly sure what you're saying, but yes I feel that a degree from Miles, as opposed to one from UAB, Alabama, or Auburn is no where near equal. Yes, they are both college degrees, and something to be commended for, but not all institutions are created equal.

I agree, a degree from UAB is better and holds more weight than a degree from Miles especially in the job market.
