More impressive than the commits this staff got, is the number that stuck with them through a rough year. This is encouraging.

The comment from fleck today that sticks out over most is about depth. He claimed throughout most of last year there weren't many positional competitions and that is what he wants. He wants strong positional battles... I couldn't agree more. Just an interesting comment I caught today.

PJ and his staff put a ton of work into this recruiting class. PJ has certainly revealed his dedication to Bronco football.

He would have had some of those had he came on board in early December and been able to recruit!

Some of this victim talk really grinds me. He had a role in his disposition, so does Dunn and Kathy. Own it and live for the future.

When I heard that I started to revert to what I felt about his bargage during the season. Wish the guy were less verbal fellating towards himself.

The idea to bring recruits in together was great, get them all thinking as team mates early.

As stated above and in other threads there are concerns about his coaching ability, how are the coordinators on the Xs and Os? the feild work of football? if Fleck can bring in players and rely on his assitants to run the offense and defense for a couple years as he figures things out himself he could have a few good years.

You and I haven't agreed with much about PJ, but I share your view with respect toward his verbal onslaught of self pitying and self aggrandizement. At this point, shut up and coach is how I look at it. His comment about lack of depth is an insult to every player on that roster who sweated, puked and bled Bronco brown during a powerfully pitiful season.

I remember a reporter asking Gary Darnell about rebuilding, and his reply was telling: "to talk about rebuilding is an insult to your current players." I might add: to talk about lack of depth is an insult to your players as well.

In fairness to PJ, I need to comment with respect to GD, going off and interviewing for a new job before big rivalry game week is also insult to your players. Moral of the story: nobody's perfect.

Well said. He should just quit trying to backhand the last group and blame them for his poor first season.

He really needs to get over that, and look forward. Put it behind him, he played his part on how badly it went, own it, build a bridge, and get over it asap.

I do agree with what he said, there are NO EXCUSES now. None. He needs to win.

Not trying to take away from your take aways from this short PJ era... but, what I took away from those comments about lack of depth hinged on a positional battle scenario... Based maybe on injuries or poor recruiting efforts. Regardless, if I am the coach and I see in practice only ONE player that I would be willing to start on any given week... well then that would blow. That would indicate that the one player would really have no one pushing him for playing time, and not making him better at what he does.

This does NOT reflect on Cubit... as I bet Cubit struggled with this over the years at certain positions... but rather a situation you try to avoid at a level where you may get a couple really good guys at certain positions...

Sure... guys have given their blood sweat and tears for this program over the years... but that doesnt always mean those guys where the best option on game day. Regardless of the coach that would make that decision.

No reason to say that now. He needs to learn to say what his goal is without going on about how bad things were in the past.

That's dwelling on the negative. He could learn from many great people about fruitless to dwell on what is done and look to the future, isn't that what the preachers around here have been saying for the last year?

See: "Jimmy Johnson" when you want to hear a coach talk about being positive in your thinking.

Thats the thing DB... where you see him dwelling on the past, I see him looking at not the past but the reality of his first year and finding improvement on those issues in his first recruitment. Not dwelling, but rather rejoicing in the opportunities that this class will hopefully provide.

I avoided watching PJ's presser. Instead I watched the NSD Breakdown show with Robin Hook and Matt Kamen on WMUBroncos.com. Congrats to PJ and staff for landing our best class ever.

Scout now has us at 53, but when Robin and Matt did the show we were at 58. At one point they showed a chart of the best MAC signing classes for the past 10 years, and how they ranked. I was surprised to see that Cubit had the best MAC class in 2008 (I forgot about that), which was ranked 65th overall. That would be the class that took WMU to the LCPB in 2011.

Good things should be ahead for the Broncos.

I understand your point, you're absolutely correct, but.........does the head coach need to shout it publicly like that? It's kind of embarrassing.

I may have in the past agreed with DB here but I'm willing to give PJ a pass. He was probably running on adrenaline and caffeine at that point when the press conference started. Probably giddy and exhausted all at the same time.

I might have to pick me up a set of oars. Join the lapdog club. Naah. Not quite yet.

But I'm cutting PJ some slack. Another class like this one next year and I'll really be a believer.

I just hope he's not the next Ron Zook.

That's a great point Belt. 2008 was a good class for us and it worked out well. Didn't realize that it was considered the best in the MAC and ranked 65 though.

Ranked above tons of BCS programs.

Yep - lots of big schools below us...

I'm so out of it, I didn't even know that Maryland had joined the Big 10.

DB
Quote:I do agree with what he said, there are NO EXCUSES now. None. He needs to win.

Do you mean he needs to win next year? By winning do you mean he has to 7-5 or better?

Our QB will either be a second year soph or a RS freshmen or a freshmen.

We have no RB's other than 3 true freshmen.

Our Oline is still very young, and it's depth will consist of freshmen and RS freshmen.

Our TE's will be mostly freshmen

I do believe we will be loaded at WR.

Our DE's will likely be all new.

Our DT's will all be freshmen and sophs with the exception of a UM transfer who played mostly on special teams.

Our DB's should be very good.

Our crossover game will likely include BG, and we have Purdue and Illinois on the road.

It took Cubit 3 years to put a solid team on the field after a very good 08 recruiting class.

I'm not sure Nick Sabin could go 7-5 or better with this much youth.

Ah, Chipdip. I agree with your post. However, PJ is not selling reality now is he. There is a major disconnect between what he is selling and what is likely to happen.

Well, if you don't dream then you will for sure never hit the stars...
