Meh... I think we should give him another year. Hell, maybe this class will pan out...in three years.

Geez, one year and it's off to the chopping block... At least give him some time to bring in recruits. Did I fall asleep for a decade of winning or are you a Price supporter? How many winning seasons did UTEP have before Kugler arrived? I think we can spare another 3-4 years before it's time to discuss a change.

Why should we? Last year was horrible. We were ok in the beginning of the seaosn then he changed to his power ball and got slaughtered..plus the players transfering.....

I would give Tech a C. I think it's an average class for us. But I give the coaches a B for recruiting because they were able to get an average class coming off a disastrous season. I guess they were selling early playing time?

1. He had three bowl births and two 8 win seasons..

2. not many but ok...there were more coaches out there with head coaching experience..

3. Id rather not be a doormat in football while teams like La Tech and others can recruit well and we are crap...

I would like Rice to get in on that pipeline as well. The only Texas school that seems to have had success recruiting those kids seemed to be A&M.

I would counter this argument by asking you how much confidence do you have in UNT's coaching staff ability to evaluate talent?
Big schools miss talented kids all the time especially in Texas as well as other areas. Rice has several 2*s that are in the NFL including a TE that just contributed to Seattle winning the Super Bowl. Larry Coker at Miami and more recently Texas made the mistake of relying on the evaluation of recruiting services. If Coach Dan has an appreciation for talent, then it doesn't matter how many other schools have offered your recruits.

Same thing with kids that are undersized. That's why you need a good S&C program. A lot of kids are late bloomers and need that first year to put on weight while getting acclimated to college. So unless you need kids to contribute immediately, if you have a good S&C program, you should be okay. In fact, I recall reading an article that Coach McCarney revamped the S&C program upon arrival at UNT.

Now that could be troublesome...

WKU was actually turning several players down. Something that is crazy to think about when you think about the losing streak we had a few seasons ago and the transition up from FCS to get FBS talent.

We had a recruit take a late visit to Syracuse ('Cuse has tried to steal recruits from us last 3 years). WKU told him that if he took the official there then he may not have a scholarship from us waiting when he came back. He said he would take the chance, WKU offered another guy from Alabama who was a similar player at same postion (he signed today) and revoked the other kids scholarship offer. It's a business....but nice to know WKU is getting to the point of kids wanting to come here so bad that we have to turn a lot of them down or don't have to play the waiting game on recruits and can find someone else just as easy.

I would give Charlotte a B-. It is a good sign I think that we're able to pull a class as good as this with only one year behind us.

Syracuse stole our class's highest rated player after he went to the Duke game last week. Not a big fan of that program right about now.

And a lot of this was done last minute since Partridge was brought on during the "no contact" period.

GO OWLS!!!

There is no doubt about this. Partridge did incredibly well. And the muthafricker stole two from us -- Soroh and Bussey. Bussey had an amazing season and was very productive. Also, getting the Coral Gables RB was impressive. But can he coach???????????

Not very well if you care about star rankings. Size and positional needs were met so fingers crossed they pan out.

RE: How do you rate/grade your class?
I'll give Rice a B+. Most of our recruits committed very early in the process and didn't waver. When they did commit to us, recruiting services knocked them down a "star." They must think that no good athletes would possibly want to play for Rice. Times have changed and we are now taking athletes from P5 schools. There are also several "hidden gems" in this class, as in the past. All these guys could be redshirted, which probably says much more about the state of the program than the quality of the class.

Afflicted is no longer worth correcting on the Rice board, but on here..

To say we're taking athletes away from P5 schools is ridiculous. Few of our recruits had any BCS offers, those that did were lowest level BCS schools, and there's little indication there was any serious competition.

The offer lists of our recruits is fully consistent with their rankings.

The only player to lose a star was our QB commitment, and that had far less to do with committing to Rice than the fact that none of the big schools he camped with over the summer, that earned him recognition from the sites, offered him a scholarship.
