edit: Is this a concern?

With Tulane, there's no telling. Football will always be a relatively small issue to them compared to everything else. I'd say that athletics at Tulane are as strong as they've been in 10-15 years, but what does their momentum consist of? Kicking USM out of their conference and building a high school-sized stadium? That's mighty thin gruel for an organization that tries to be world-class. New dude could come in and deemphasize athletics, or at least drop hints about doing so, and no one would be all that surprised.

More likely, Tulane will just stay the course. In 15 years they'll probably be stabbing ECU in the back and building a 1,250-seat basketball gym.

Tulane athletics as strong as the last 10-15 years? OKAY. An annual wbb tourney team, #1 in the country baseball team then and not now. Plus football is just now climbing back into relevancy on the G5 scale.

But why am I bothering? You're a proven Wave hater.

If you go beyond 15 years then you're talking about the Tommy Bowden / CUSA 1.0 / Perry Clark era. I do not think Tulane is better off now than then. Does anyone? I think an honest Tulane fan would admit that you have never quite recovered from your decision to pass on Rich Rodriguez.

As for hating Tulane, I'll "plead the fifth" on that. My dad's an alum. My wife's a current student / former research staff. I've probably been to more Tulane games than most of your students, and I mean that literally, and it would probably hold true even if you excluded games versus USM. But at some point, Tulane ceased being a positive part of the New Orleans community. Ditching your engineering programs was bad for NOLA. So was ditching Newcomb College. So was ditching USM. I even see your people trying to claim the "U of Louisiana" moniker (as if you had anything to fear from ULL... your faculty beer budget is probably bigger than their endowment).

I don't think Yulman is good for the community. I went to Tulane games at Gormley and at the Dome. I'm not going Uptown and neither is 90% of real New Orleans.

Overall, I think I give Tulane a fair shake, but they've done little to earn my sympathy.

They've at least earned that....

People can be convicted even after pleading the fifth. And you have shown -- over and over and over again -- that you have a special animosity for Tulane. I don't know you or what path you've taken in life. Maybe Tulane or people from Tulane did some harm to you, and you might have good reason to hate it. But the hate is there and most of the time (at least on this site) you don't even try to hide it.

I'm afraid to ask what you thought about Tulane Stadium, which held 80,000 and hosted 3 Super Bowls.
