As UC’s winning streak continues to grow and the Bearcats rise in the national rankings, one of Mick Cronin’s toughest jobs is to keep his players grounded, or as he says, “humble and hungry,” as they prepare to face South Florida on Sunday at Fifth Third Arena.
UC has won 13 in a row and is No. 13 in the Associated Press media poll.

“My message to the guys is that when you win every game gets bigger,” Cronin said. “You create excitement by winning but you have to realize that fame is fleeting. That can’t be what it’s about for us. All it does is make the game bigger for our opponent. We have to make sure that we don’t embrace success.
“We’ve got to stay humble and hungry. It’s more of a challenge for myself because my players are getting patted on the back everywhere they go. That’s where I’ve got to rely on my seniors. They have to understand that that’s in the past.”
Cronin said his players took Thursday’s win at Louisville in stride.
“We didn’t even watch it on the bus on the way home,” he said. “They were singing for 30 minutes and telling jokes and then they wanted to put in a movie. (At one point) our bus was smoking and we had to pull over. Shaq Thomas was running off the bus. He thought it was going to blow up.
“The good thing for us is that our guys know we were in a dogfight with South Florida.”
