RE: Champlin : UAB gets verbal commitments from 5 junior college recruits
looks like Clark is taking a page out of the George Allen playbook. THE FUTURE IS NOW! 'm not a fan of signing a large number of jucos because of the turnover. its a good way to build a team for a season but its a horrible way to build a program. during the callaway years I would mockingly post the need to recruit all jucos while quoting Allen. that being said, its exactly what our program needs right now. after so many years of suck UAB no longer has the luxury of building for the future. UAB needs a quick fix and a quick turn around to change the attitude of the fans and our perception in the state.
I was willing to wait the four years it would take callaway to build a team the right way after Zero soaked the football program in benzene and tossed a lit match through the window on his way out the door. unfortunately he did not have what it takes to build a winning team but at least he rid UAB of the rot left by Zero. then Less Than Zero arrived and the less said about Less Than Zero the better.
Considering the state of the program and having almost no time to recruit due to the timing of our salvation, loading up on jucos is not only understandable and expedient, its the correct move.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. He didn't have the luxury of recruiting normally. By the time he was hired most of the recruits had made decisions and committed. I'd rather he grabbed JUCOs to patch holes now, and hit reset and start fresh next season.
You pretty much have to give him a pass on this years recruiting season, he had, what, nine days? He's done reasonably well, considering what he was up against. Remember too, it's not like he took over Penn State and started recruiting.

I have no problem with the Jucos. I think this was the year for Jucos no matter who the coach was. With all the injuries we had last season, we need these guys for depth more than anything else.

ALL players play one season at a time - whether JUCO or other source of former play. Right now they are all getting ready for 2014, the only game in town this year. We will deal with 2015 when that year becomes relevant. Transfers, injuries, just plain quitting and a host of other variable factors may change who lines up in 2015. We will play the 2014 season with the players we have on our August 31, 2014 roster, whoever they may be.
