RE: Underway at Hess
Congrats to Katherine & Natalie Dominique for getting points today.
Question: In this year's new scoring system, will the teams be playing out all the matches -- and they count -- as they seemed to do today? (Rather than quitting at 4-1, after Stanford got the match clinching point?) Or was finshing them all something informal for this match only, say, agreed to by the coaches?
If so, how will it make a difference if we lose (or win) a match 7-0 vs. 4-3?

Fantastic job. To go 5-2 against the No 1 team in the nation is pretty remarkable. I wonder if this improves our ranking?

I think that is up to the coaches/tournament. For example, last week at the ITA matches, games were suspended after a team reached 4 points. I don't think it matters whether you win 4-0, 7-0, 4-3, teamwise. But I think it would be beneficial to players to pick up wins individually especially when its against a ranked player.

Not sure if it will improve as Stanford defeated Texas yesterday (who beat Rice).

Historically matches have been completed except upon prior agreement of both coaches. The new rule does not change this for singles. It has changed for doubles as the third doubles match will not be completed if the doubles point has been clinched.
Typically it is during tournaments like ITA Kickoff when matches will be suspended after one team reaches four points as there are multiple matches to be played each day.
Fairly certain that the rankings do not consider margin of victory because not all seven points are always completed.
Also, keep in mind that these new "experimental" rules are only in effect through Feb 10. It should be back to normal when Rice faces McNeese on the 15TH.
As to todays match the Rice points were from Dominique Harmath and Katherine Ip. Natalie lost a really hard fought match to the #6 ranked Ang.

Many thanks for the rundown. When the rules revert on Feb. 10, I'll probably ask for a refresher. :-)
And I knew it was Dominique who got our second point. Distracted typing. Mea culpa! (I'll correct it.)

Technically it's a "deciding match tiebreak". A "third set tiebreak" would be a tiebreak to decide a third set, rather than (as here) a tiebreak in lieu of a third set.
