RE: Memphis-SMU game preview
Nobody gave up on the Tigers -- not any Tiger fans, anyway. We just did our normal, annual ritual of thinking we're going 40-0 National Champs (or something close) like we do almost every October and then getting back down to reality after we lose a couple.
And we didn't somehow take off over the last four games, either. Don't forget that four-game winning streak started out with Lemoyne-Owen (please, does that even count as a win?) and finished up with the Florida directional teams and Houston, who have the same number of conference wins as we do, but spread between the three of them.
As far as today's game goes, SMU is better than they've been in a long time, and so are we. That means losing to them would still be a big setback but not an insurmountable one. Any team with Larry Brown on the sidelines is respectable -- by osmosis if nothing else. Vegas thinks we lose in a close one. I agree it'll be a close one, but losing to SMU -- well, that never makes you look good, does it? I think our guys know that, and we come out ready to play. It'll be a better game than most think, I'm pretty sure.
