The top four are certainly right, the top one for sure is right, top two should be Penny and Larry in my opinion, but I was not a Tiger in 1985 and that is also not the way the bracket fell. First Tiger event for me was a 1987; a win by the FB team over Ole Miss.

RE: "It’s Larry Finch, by a landslide!"
It all depends on what you mean by best player. You could talk about 1) who had the biggest impact both on and off the court. You could talk about 2) who had the best career at the U of M. Or you could talk about 3) who was the best player overall, even if they were only at the U of M for one or two years.

Here are the answers:

1) Finch
2) Lee
3) Rose/Hardaway

Hardaway has generated a tremendous off the court impact for the community and the University; my guess is Rose likely never will, could be wrong. Hardaway trumps Rose for me.

This ^ is why these kinds of campaigns are a conglomerate of emotional goo peppered with avarice and ratings. Larry gave back out of his poverty. Penney gave back out of his abundance. Larry's post Tiger career was lack lustre with a 4th round draft pick by the Lakers and the Memphis TAMS. Penney's post Tiger career blew up and he was an NBA All-Star. Larry's Tiger career was politically marked within the context of racial tensions and the demographics which weighed in, accordingly. Penney's Tiger career was characterized and marked by a completely different set of circumstances including academic qualifications and physical injury.

I think both Larry, Penny, Keith, the other forgotten Larry and a huge unnamed host of other Tiger greats, in their own context, should be named among the "best", and let this kind of singularized, skewed nomenclature be stricken from our minds since it holds no bearing on any credible grasp or reality.

Lee was the best all around we've ever had.
Finch was awesome.
But Lee was the best.

Ronnie Robinson was the best ever here. Keith was a close second. Finch would be my third followed by Win Wilfong and Penny.

It's hard to argue with the top 3, in whatever order. My only question is with Perry being seeded and voted into the top 4. I loved Perry, but he's not the 4th best Tiger of all time, IMO

I think as time goes by, the longer ago someone played, the fewer fans even know who they were. I'm probably one of the few on here who has seen all these guys on the list play in person, many times, and on TV, even more.

For my money, Win Wilfong would be #4. Others in my top 10, in no particular order, would include Forrest Arnold, Larry Kenon, Mike Butler, Perry, Derrick Rose and CDR.

Yep.

Without definitions of what factors determine such things, it becomes a popularity contest or a mish mash of what each thinks is the meaning of best, or most valuable.

And, of course, any "top Tiger" that played before most fans' memory will be automatically excluded.

It can never be "Top Tiger" or best all time Tiger for that very reason.

Seriously? The 28 rebounds in a game might never be broken but he couldn't touch Keith Lee.

Keith Lee was one of the best college players of all-time.
