The ignorance is the notion that anyone believes God picks winners in sporting events and that thanking God has anything to do with that.

That's not ignorant. It can be considered an unfair conclusion based off of what they think his angle is, however. We have too much of that going on both sides and on a lot of issues. Doris Burke is receiving the same treatment.

It is either a deliberate misrepresentation of Christianity or it is ignorance of Christianity. I am actually giving him the benefit of doubt.

To a non-believer it may sound as if athletes are doing that.

And that is ignorance.

It's also a misinterpretation of the situation. Translation: ignorance

We are commending him for his faith and mocking the angry atheist nerd lady for her smug reaction.

Sounds like she laughed because he played well and gave all the credit to God instead of himself and his team.

That doesn't mean she's an atheist...lots of Christians find praying for sports bad form.

Admit it, you are just pissed off because this man tries to follow Jesus Christ and his life has turned out successful. In fact, the vast majority of successful people I know are either Jewish or Christian.

Wait, this thread is about a liberal supposedly mocking a christian. Who do you think is outraged here, the supposedly mocking liberal or the fundamentalist christians pushing this nonstory, as she clearly wasn't mocking him, as evidence of an attack on their religion?

The responses have gone from 'DON'T MOCK HIS RELIGION!' on the right to 'i think it's pretty silly to thank god for a sports game' on the left, with a whole lot of 'well, she wasn't mocking him' in the middle. Your entire post makes absolutely no sense.

Is it not true. We guess intentions without truly knowing all the time. We had a pretty big Richard Sherman thread about this.

And on KD: He actually thanked God for helping him get on the run that he's on and helping them win games. That's why he did it. I don't think there's anything wrong about it or her reaction.

Because you atheists are always on your missions to convert the rest of us. You think because you feel you don't need Jesus Christ, then nobody else needs Jesus Christ... and whenever somebody noteworthy thanks Jesus Christ, it sends you in a tizzy and you are quick to raise your hand everywhere and preach that s/he did not in fact need Jesus Christ. Then you misrepresent Christianity and this man himself by claiming he thinks there is some being in the sky controlling the outcome of a sporting event, therefore trying to make all people who need Jesus Christ into nut cases. Consistent pattern.

It doesn't strike me as that big of a deal. I'd most likely the say the same thing in a friendly exchange and I'm a Christian.

I think what you're doing is what the lawyers call "assuming facts not in evidence."

I think if the backdrop hadn't already been set, this wouldn't be a story and it wouldn't be all over the social networks.

Sometimes when it looks like a fresh turd and sticks up the place, you don't need a scientific study to prove it is a turd. The turd probably shouldn't have laughed at his answer.

So, I watched it twice and still missed the part where she's an atheist.

You have demonstrated yourself capable of some truly gargantuan leaps, though, so there's that.
