Sounds like Louisville fans want the series to continue
I listened to some of the Louisville pregame show yesterday (Plus some message board stuff) and it seems that almost all Louisville fans want this series to continue, so I would guess that in the next couple/few years we will see the series renewed. Just too much history and I think both Mick and Rick want to see the game go on.

Of U of L can just push for us to get into the ACC so they won't need to waste a non-conference game on us. 04-cheers

All of Pitino's excesses aside, I do believe he cares about Mick and by extension UC. I think Rick would love to continue the longstanding rivalry as ACC members. My guess is he's voiced that opinion and it can't hurt to have a HOF coach saying such things. Building an acceptable profile for a P5 is at least partly about creating lots of favorable impressions that Cincy is worthy. Yes, Presidents make these decisions but you can bet they talk to their donors and fans so having respected people in the profession praising Mick and the turnaround is helpful.

I'm not saying there isn't a legitimate connection (especially on Mick's end - see my sig if it's visible for evidence of his loyalty), but I wouldn't get too carried away with the idea of Pitino being an ally of Mick much less UC. For example Pitino's comment this week about why they are playing Memphis next year but not UC (essentially "Memphis asked first") isn't exactly inspiring.

As far as the UL fans go though, yeah I think they want it to continue. In fact, fwiw I just saw an unscientific poll there that showed exactly that (at least when I saw it - I'll link it if I get a chance.)

True, but the Memphis series was scheduled before the break up of the Big East, so Mick had no reason to ask for a series because the Big East still existed (And by time the carnage was over, Louisville's schedule is too fat to add UC in the next season or two). Fans and boosters will likely lean a little on the university to get the series going again.

Perhaps ESPN's kingmakers will step in.

Once teams are settled into their new conferences and scheduling needs and requirements become established ,i bet this rivalry will resume . Obviously scheduling basketball with Louisville will be easier than football by the simple fact there are more slots to fill, but I hope they can get a multi-sport agreement done. But for now there will probably be a 2-3 year pause in the rivalry

In basketball, the rivalry might continue. In FB, I don't ever expect the rivalry to resume outside of a random bowl matchup.

Baseball is another way the rivalry will continue as well.

It's not a rivalry when one team NEVER wins.

I think this is what it will take. Ville always has UK on the schedule and will likely be in a tournament more years than not. With the difficulty of the ACC schedule they probably won't want much more than 1 additional national game.

And almost no one knows which team that is.
