Also, danged UTEP is losing players by the minute and all they do is win, win, win. I guess as long as they have three they can play! (When I coached in MS, I once coached a team with seven players that due to foul-outs during the game, played the third and final overtime period with three players. No joke. Ever employ a 1-2 zone? I have!)

They are doing it thanks to slowing down the game and having refs who don't allow pressure basketball due to calling ridiculous fouls. They are also really tall.

Be glad you aren't watching - never seen a game with this many fouls called. Hope the tournament is better

How is the refs our fault. Last I recall our guys were getting fouls called on them too.

I don't guess it's your fault, but it played to your favor. We play uptempo and use our quickness to change the game. Hard to do that when a game is called like it was tonight. Good game though, hope we get another shot in the tourney.

Tim Floyd gets a lot of credit but UTEP has an amazing coaching staff.
Phil Johnson was a former head coach at SJSU
Bob Cantu was the interim head coach at USC last season
Bobby Braswell was the head coach at Cal State Northridge for 20 years
Ken DeWeese was an assistant coach at Mary Hardin Baylor and the team won 18, 22, 26, and 19 while he was there
Konner Tucker was on the UTEP team last year.

It is an amazing staff that has really over achieved this year.

I'm sorry, but ALL credit is due to the PLAYERS, the ref's tried to give La Tech a chance, but NOT so fast! Miners were not having it... Rice will be scary!

He has done more with less. He got his team playing smart ball with
virtually no guards. All the players have stepped up.

I think it's 3 things:

1) Judging by the quotes that have been coming out ("Practice is fun again" "Nobody here has an agenda any more"), I think it's pretty clear that at least 2 out of the Three Stooges were more concerned about themselves than the team.

2) Bohannon, who had been more or less a basket case for his first three seasons, realized this is his last year and he better grow up quickly.

3) Losing the players gave Washburn a kick in the butt. He was no longer in a place where he could defer and is becoming the offensive player that I think we all thought he could become.

Oh yeah, and some guy named Hunter.

I also think that players like Washburn and Cooper are streaky players. Their increased minutes allow them to really get into the flow of the game.

Floyd and Johnson are a great coaching duo. I have to believe that Johnson will be lured away next year. A school like Houston, UTSA, or ECU would benefit greatly by hiring him.

Not good for C-USA and the small chance we had at getting more than 1 team in the big dance.

Cue ECU fan explaining why their coach is the best ever, regardless of record.

The big difference has been Vince Hunter. As he has been able to stay out of foul trouble the team has been able to perform better. Prior to the three players being kicked off the team his minutes were limited. He only played 14 minutes against Charlotte but since that time he has been playing at least 30 minutes and in those games he is averaging 19.8 points.

If MT makes it far enough in the tourney, I hope and pray we do not face UTEP.

I don't think we can beat them-- just too tall.

How in the hades did UTEP lose to New Orleans ?
