Nippert Construction Updates
Old press-box gone, and a tour underneath Nippert Stadium... Back in the days when Nippert was condemned (literally) and rebuilt the first time (in the 80's), the team used to have their locker-rooms below grade, underneath the stadium bowl. Literally a dungeon-like experience. Also, there main Campus steam-generating plant used to sit just north of the north endzone (where the Linderner Center and Varsity Village now sit) and you get to see the massive amount of utilities and infrastructure that prevents the playing field from being lowered any further.

All-in-all, gives a great look at everything that goes into renovating a historic and land-locked structure...

Wow, it looked cold out there. The weather conditions make The Nip hard for opponents. Thank you and be sure to tip your waitress. But seriously, nice work on the stadium improvements.

Seems like a lot of wasted space in those under levels that could have been utilized for something...

Meh, the weather is bad maybe one game a year.

The bigger issue for opponents is that the stadium sits right in the middle of campus and the crowd is right on top of you. The noise has been an issue for visiting teams... definitely sounds like a lot more than 35K in the house in big games.

I am excited to make the trip to the ECU/CINCY game this fall! Always wanted to visit there when we were in CUSA together, but never made it. Can you still buy beer in the stadium? Talk about icing on the proverbial cake!

Due to construction, UC will be playing at Paul Brown Stadium (the Bengals stadium) in 2014. You will be able to buy beer at the game (you can buy it at Nippert as well when the stadium re-opens).

You will not be in Nippert this year you will be at The Bengals stadium downtown. Good news is Beer is available at almost all UC Sporting events on campus or downtown.

Unfortunately if you come next year you will be attending the game at Paul Brown Stadium and not Nippert... but yes there's beer there too . 04-cheers

Youll still have a good time and be close to all the downtown spots.

With all the construction problems and limited space, why not just buy up some of the blighted area around the campus and build a new stadioum with adequate room for the stadium and for future expansion.

Not too long ago UC stepped off campus and acquired some real estate, via a propped up 3rd party LLC of sorts, and for some of it they won an eminent domain suit. Those things are never real popular. Area around Campus is pretty dense, and good portion of the vicinity the topography is hilly.
UC fans sometimes banter back and forth about trying to acquire a City park, just North of Campus called Burnett Woods. The City is really proud of their parks, although Burnett seems very underutilized. You can see it here at the top of this pic. Building off campus is also way too costly.

South of campus is a huge 100 plus year old massive housing stock called
University Heights, Then Over the Rhine, here

Then Downtown

When you go East of Campus you get Walnut Hills and Mt. Auburn

There really isn't anything near campus to build a new stadium. Too much density.

I remember when Marshall made the trip up to UC for football back in '07. One of the best football trips I've taken even though we were creamed, 40-14. The experience was only topped by the 2 trips to VT. Ever since I went to that game, Nippert Stadium has been one of my favorite football venues. I just loved the design and architecture. UC also became one of my favorite colleges. The renderings look great and hopefully I can attend some more games there in the future. 04-cheers

That was TH first game where I think UC fans really saw the potential of a packed Nippert. I still believe that game probably had the attendance record, but that was back when UC students could walk into the game just by showing their student id's, so a proper count was never taken. From my perspective right in the thick of it, that student section had to have had at least 10,000 in it (now that section is limited to 7,500) and I'm fairly sure every other seat in the house was accounted for. I love it when we play schools that actually travel, that was the one negative of playing in the Big East (and one I can see in a geographically spread out AAC), our away allotments were NEVER sold outside of the Purdue, Illinois, Louisville, WVU, and Marshall games in the past 10 years.

I'd much appreciate it if y'all keep posting these for us! Can't wait to see it when it's completed. The renovated stadium will surely complement an already beautiful campus!
