RE: The ' Oh, what could haven been' Tiger teams
A tie between Alexander/Gray being ruled ineligible and Vaughn getting injured. Those were both F4, NCAA Championship caliber team. 3rd is probably the team Cal would have had before deciding to go to UK.
The first two teams EXISTED and were in place. The 3rd was going to happen. Many of the others being listed are what-if scenarios that could have happened but were never really in place.
Honestly, I dont remember how good the John Gunn team was supposed to be, although I remember the sadness, when it was announced before a game in the Mid-South Coliseum, that he had died.

Here's a different one:
Robert O'Kelly, Tony Harris, and Corey Bradford all stayed in Memphis with Marcus Moody. Joined Omar Sneed and company. Larry Finch coaches a few more years under than scenario.

What if Sean Banks had stayed over the summer and Ivan Lopez had stayed. What if Scooter and Wise hadn't been butthurt over Wagner and Massie?
I still say it's Vaughn's injury. It pretty much ruined what coulda been a great nba career.

The one and only answer.
The first thing I thought. Then Vaughn. I was 13. I cried. I was depressed for a while. Then Stevie Hamer, of my hometown Middleton tigers chose the vols....I went into hiding. Hamer had so many teachers & coaches in his ear about the vols. his first choice was actually Louisville, but a 17 year old gave in to the pressure. I played ball after school every day in the gym & I got to meat crum, wade, finch & Cheaney. Hamer was also the coach of my little league team when I was 10 & he was a 7 ft freshman in Highschool. Could've had a front line of Vaughn, Wright & Hamer.
Middleton, is also my hometown. The first thing I thought of was, Middleton, and Memphis State Tiger great Bobby Parks getting hurt---we had a great shot to win it all that year if not for that Florida State Thug Schaeffer ? I was upset about Hamer also. Jessie and Bobby Parks Middleton greats-----along with Coach Day.
