The kicker thought that the school was waiting for the statue of limitations to run out but all they were only waiting for was his football eligibility to run out. If there is not something more to this story that this article is leaving out, then the university comes off looking worse in this situation than the kicker IMO.

A story in The Michigan Daily says the student newspaper (http://bit.ly/1csm1Pi ) reviewed documents that showed the Ann Arbor school ''permanently separated'' Gibbons from the university effective Dec. 20, 2013. Sexual "misconduct?" I've never heard of anyone arrested for this. Is there an actual crime called this or are they playing word games? BYU has something like this for sex out of marriage but I highly doubt UM does.

How intimidated was the victim that for 4 years, they say nothing?

There's a link to the school's policy in the Michigan Daily article. There are violations in there that should lead to an arrest.

This is an obvious situation of a school giving a football player preferential treatment. I'm sure Michigan would have preferred the accuser to have just killed herself like Lizzie Seeberg or that swimmer at Missouri so they could wash their hands of it. Since that didn't happen, they handled it in the way that least impacted the football player and team.

The crime reported was sexual assault. Sexual misconduct was the policy violated.

The university is standing behind privacy policies and won't answer when the complaint was first made. The facts are that he was not punished for what the university determined was an expellable offense until after he earned his bachelor's degrees and after his eligibility on the football team ran out.

The victim should have reported it to the city police to begin with. No doubt easier said that done, though.
