It's also lower because we have never kept up with our alums and never had an organized campaign for them to give back.

And we have never courted those alums who do well, not our business people or our sports stars.

Not like the Big Boys do.

Actually, Shirley Raines did a GREAT job in increasing the U of M's endowment fund. That said, our alumni relations are AWFUL and really need to be kick-started. Frankly, UC and UL are commuter schools like us (but it helps to have a medical school like UC has) and I really think we should be higher on the list. If anything, an on-campus ANYTHING would help - be it BB or FB. If graduates don't see the campus, they are much less likely to give back to the University.

I don't admire someone because they managed to progress up the food chain and get themselves appointed to a cushy, lucrative, not terribly difficult job such as Univ president, in fact I resent them, but you're off base to blame her for this. Yes, maybe she should have focused more on it, but then so should several others before her.

The athletic facilities on the Park Avenue campus aren't "ON-campus" in the fullest-sense, but they aren't exactly "Off-campus" either. Very impressive additions and improvements now under-construction there with more to follow soon. Hopefully, that will help. I personally enjoy attending baseball and softball games there and might even begin watching some soccer and track in the future if they would wear the damned school colors instead of "Calipari/Winn/Nike Blue" and black (or white).

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the greatest increase ever was made during her presidency.

RE: University Endowment
I remember a time in the nineties when both CBHS and MUS had a higher academic endowment than (what was at that time) Memphis State. The University has gotten more organized and more focused but DEFINITELY needs to become more aggressive in raising money for itself.

RE: University Endowment
The school has had such crappy leadership over the years, that it will take a long time to catch up. An 11% increase in tough times is phenomenal; and that is with a change in leadership that is less than 2 years old. It won't be easy, but an annual increase of 12% will double our endowment every 6 years. We have a higher ceiling than everywhere else, and good leadership should be able to achieve that.

Leadership is only as good as the abilities and dedication of followers allow. There is much room for improvement at both ends. PRIDE is an important factor.

Sounds like some of you "good fans" need to get to work and donate.
