UTEP loses another player
Junior guard Victor Mbachu ruled academically ineligible. Doesn't look like he played much but going to be hard to even practice without enough bodies.

RE: UTEP loses another player
It is rumored on another UTEP board that a second player, Hooper Vint, may also become ineligible due to grades. Apparently, he is disputing a grade but will not be ruled ineligible while the dispute is under review. I don't know how accurate this report is and reiterate it is only a rumor right now.

I have only read reports on UTEP message boards and not seen anything official from the University or local newspaper. Some posters have stated that the eligibility statements were made by Coach Floyd during his weekly radio appearance and/or a luncheon last week. The above link is from Miner Rush. Alex posts here from time to time so maybe he can elaborate on where he based his article. Also, Alex states Mbachu can still practice so at least there are enough bodies for game prep. CJ Cooper's backup is our scholarship freshman running back that has only been on the team for less than 2 weeks.

The Vint rumor was made in this thread on Kyyotes Den: http://kyyotesden.com/Den/index.php/topic,66.0.html Vint played last game after the claim about his grades was mentioned but the poster insisted it was from Floyd's mouth. Only time will tell.

RE: UTEP loses another player
We knew about Mbachu probably not being eligible. It was already made known that he was suspended for the MT-UAB road trip because of academic reasons. This is just more or less a confirmation of that.

Vint is just an odd situation and came as a bolt from the blue. You never really heard about him having any issues until that post. In it, the poster insinuates that he may be contesting a grade and that's the reason why he played. It doesn't make any sense to. I don't know why the staff would risk playing an ineligible player who hadn't played in about the previous 5 games or so in a game where we were expecting to have an easy win. And, a player who has played maybe 30 minutes all year to boot. Apparently, a player doesn't lose his eligibility if he contests the grade, but I wouldn't want to be bumping up against that for a player like Vint. I'm convinced the poster misheard or something.

How many players does UTEP have? You've lost about half a football team!

UTEP currently has 15 players on the roster. One is Mbachu who is ineligible. There are 9 on basketball scholarships, one of whom is red shirting this year. There are six walk on players, two of which are scholarship football players. The problem is that of the 9 scholarship basketball players only one is a true guard, two others are guard/forwards. Coach Floyd has gone with a very large line up.

C- Matt Wilms 7'1" freshmen
PF- John Bohannon 6' 11" senior
SF- Vince Hunter 6'8" freshmen
SG- Julian Washburn 6'8" junior
PG- CJ Cooper 6' junior

Reserves
Cedric Lang 6'10" PF/Center
Jake Flaggart 6'7" F/G
Hooper Vint 6'11" PF/C
Aaron Jones 5'10" walk on football player. Was basketball MVP in El Paso last year

Coach Floyd has done a good job so far in getting guys rest. In our last game Cooper only played 30 minutes. He played 40 minutes against MTSU and 39 against UAB. Both of those were road games which UTEP was able to win. I don't know how long Cooper can continue to do this but coach Floyd really has no other choice. I do know that the current situation has helped to bond the team together in an us vs. the world attitude that wasn't there before.
