NIU 63
Kent State 60

LOL I doubt it.

We may not win a game until February 12, especially if we don't win at Ball St. on Saturday.

LOL!

Stat of the night. Montgomery was 0-24 when trailing at the half. A huge Gorilla of his back.
Very important win for the team.

A double digit comeback on the road is nice, despite the many many qualifiers one could bring up.

Free throws were made (clutch ones too)...but other than that, yeah, burn the tape....BUT RING UP A WIN!

You don't burn the tape. The film teaches that if you play hard on defense and rebound, you give yourself a chance. They didn't shoot well but it doesn't matter as long as you win. They did shoot free-throws well.

They shot 34% from the field, 23% from 3, and turned it over 20 times. It wasn't a very pretty game. I'm not complaining, but that's not one you put on a coaching video.

Just wanted to stop over and say good win. Caught the end after watching Ohio narrowly miss crapping the bed against CMU. I like Montgomery and hope he keeps you guys going in the right direction.

this was the first time I saw this team play and althought they can make you crazy with turnovers, I have to say they play their asses off. Need the steadying hand of a good junior senior, but they played hard. Good win, something to build on

Thanks. I think the team is getting there. They've improved on defense, are pretty good at rebounding. Just need to get more shots to fall.

Agree 100%. However, maybe this was the first step in learning how to win. They had many opportunities to fold, especially at the eleven second mark and they didn't.

Maybe not pretty in some aspects but Tom Emanski would cut the video of the NIU 2nd half defense as how to play perfect defense, that was a thing of beauty. When you hold Kent to 6 points in the final 12+ mins of the game at their place, that gets your attention.

I am really surprised how quickly Aaric Armstead has made such a big impact, what impresses me about him for a freshman is the amount of energy he exerts on both ends of the floor, he could really be a force to be reckoned with , and could turn out to be a fantastic complete player.

I've seen all but 1 home game this year and the 1 consistent factor in each game has been the intensity of our defense. It was really great to see Buffalo get so frustrated during the game last weekend because we were in their face on every possession. Every dribble and shot was challenged.

NIU last play. I wonder if MM told Baker to just drive to the basket and force the refs to make a call? Or did Baker just do his own read of the D? Perfect call if MM called it. No way does NIU hit a 15 ft jump shot. NIU has a very difficult time running set plays. Baker is the best ft shooter. Nice win.

Im not sure I have ever seen any NIU team play as good of a half of defense as NIU played last night.

Very important win for the team.

Maybe in MAC play. We won against Loyola this year from behind at half.

This is the only way NIU can win this year, other than the odd game every once in a while when shots fall (which I'm still waiting for...).

Again though Frisky I think you are taking an ill-advised approach by looking at whats building so far this season as contributing to some end goal this year. Its not about this year, NIU wont be able to string consecutive wins together often losing so much fire power to injury and playing so young. Efforts like last night are great but hard to come up with that type of defensive effort often. Its looking ahead and adding this type of effort with what should be increased offensive firepower next year, that is where things get very very interesting. You had a team out there last night which completely has bought into Montgomery and what he stresses, its always exciting to see a team commit and buy into what a coach preaches. Last night was a special night and great signs for the next 1 to 2 years going forward.

Yes. Our shooting has not been good, and it has been frustrating watching all the missed shots. Perhaps we can create some wins with superb defensive performances. You win any way you can, and every win is a good win. There certainly has been improvement in out FT shooting. It was a pleasure watching that last night.

We have 8 wins - 3 more than all of last year - and it is not yet February. Many of us said that we would be happy with 10 wins this year as a sign of progress. We should easily get that and more over the next month.

Great win fellas. I know it's been a rough road the last couple of years but it looks like Monty has everything pointed in the right direction. Looking forward to our games.
