ACC Moving to 9-game schedule (again)?
http://georgiatech.blog.ajc.com/2014/01/...-schedule/

Quote:At the conference’s meetings this week, the conference and ESPN are expected to have an update on where things stand in regards to a possible ACC channel. Should it go forward, Bobinski said, ESPN will likely want more “inventory” to put on the channel, meaning an additional conference game.

Quote:But, TV money may trump. The GTAA projects it will receive $22.2 million from the ACC in the 2015 fiscal year. (That’s $5.5 million more than was previously projected. The increase is due in part to the league signing its grant of rights, which was worth about $1.1 million per school from ESPN.) That is largely ESPN cash. That number would increase if plans for an ACC network are realized.

That would be interesting. The SEC would be the only P5 that wouldn't play a 9-game conference schedule.

If ESPN tells the ACC that they "need" 9 conference FB games to have more good inventory for a conference network, then they must be saying the same thing to the SEC.

I would think this would be good news for the AAC as a few more slots might open up on ESPN's other networks for AAC games (especially when taken in conjunction with the SEC network).

Which means 4 of the 5 P5 conferences may be headed for (or already have) 9 game conferences schedules.

They are. The ADs have already been talking about it.

The interesting thing is that schools are scheduling better, but they may cut P5 cross-conference matches. Or they may just schedule better all around.

This past year, the SEC, Big 10 and ACC each averaged exactly 9.0 P5 schools on their schedules. The Big 12 was 9.6 and the Pac 12 10.0. The latter two had 9 game conference schedules.

I find it interesting that this is more proof that a GoR has value in and unto itself.

RE: ACC Moving to 9-game schedule (again)?
Last year, Virginia Tech's AD mentioned that he was concerned about the series with East Carolina because the Hokies were playing the Pirates more than conference mates.

It makes sense to have a 'warm up game', a 'regional game', a 'national game' and your conference schedule.

That is true for most teams but a school like NC State still may still choose to play Wofford, Old Dominion, and Liberty.05-stirthepot

i thought the same thing. unless i'm missing something, it seems that the acc is in much better $ shape than all of the tv contract experts on the internet thought.

Just means the schools will all face each other more often than the current setup. A good thing. But cuts down on number of OOC schools. Damned if You do and Damned if You Don't.

Unless everyone goes to a 13 games schedule.

That's the total ACC distribution which includes $5-$7 million of NCAA credits and other revenues. The Big 10 paid out around $24 million last year and only $17 million was media money.

Before y'all break your arm patting yourselves on the back remember that the ACC started withholding Maryland's cut o the payout when they announced the move to the B1G.

RE: ACC Moving to 9-game schedule (again)?
From the article....the extra $$$ apparently is coming from ESPN not any Maryland Lawsuit settlement:

But, TV money may trump. That number would increase in the future if plans for an ACC network are realized.

So even if an ACC Network does get off the ground the Baseline is $22.2 Million Per School for the Media Deal...if a ACC Network goes off the number is even higher...04-cheers
