Was just pointing out that the grad students who unionized weren't just getting a scholarship.

But if the players do unionize, the schools will have to negotiate the stipends with the players. They can't just dictate a $3000 stipend on their own. Who knows what the figures will end up being.

If the players end up being defined as employees---the stipend can be whatever they want it to be. It wouldn't have to be limited to the full cost of attendance. We are essentially talking receuting free agency.

Can't wait for the first union strike that cancels an Ohio St home game.
The Grambling situation this past year was not union instigated but it was a player collective idea to get some grievances addressed. I believe they succeeded to some degree.

Maybe colleges will eventually have to offer salaries to players rather then scholarships? The ncaa may have a hard time with rules that tell a player/employee how many credits he has to pay for each semester.

There's a trap with every piece of cheese. If the players succeed in just receiving a salary to play, they will owe taxes. I think it stays with stipends for that reason, and I think the unions get defeated on the same point. What I see happening is an ombudsman position at each university answerable to whatever governing structure as it pertains to players welfare, safety, and health care.
