Exactly but than now we have "new App" fan telling us no way they would leave SB for CUSA which is a joke..App fans were begging for an CUSA invite just a year ago and many were upset they did not get an invite....Anyone on here who says their admin. would not accept an invite to CUSA at this very second are delusional as they come...

Your "mathematical formula" is severely flawed then, due to personal bias, and should be given the lack of respect it deserves.

What was ASU's average attendance for baseball last year? How about for women's basketball?

There were only 43 NCAA baseball programs in the entire country last year, who were able to outdraw a 15-15 women's basketball team, at a school whose fan base had bailed on the Head Coach.

NCAA basketball will always be more relevant than NCAA baseball, and have a larger impact in determining an athletic program's value in the public's mind, and on the athletic program's balance sheet.

Any "mathematical formula" ignoring that difference is rubbish.

Why is it that only the folks in the sun Belt are continually trying to make comparisons with other conferences ? Envy or inferiority complex ? 07-coffee3

For only one reason...nobody trusts anyone else to stay...and nobody wants to be left in an Idaho/WAC position...so they will bail to a league that is actually no better on the field.

It will remain so until the SBC members figure out how to play the Prisoner's Dilemma and wed themselves together to get rid of that fear.

The makeup of CUSA was a bit different when App wanted in. It was mainly about pairing up with ECU.

hopefully, with the belt getting its share as the top non-AQ conference, for whatever reason, it will help the presidents to realize that...

For the record, I'm against seeing the Cajuns leave the Belt for C-USA. I see no benefit at the moment feeling it would be at best a lateral move. With each passing season, the Belt is proving itself to be a solid football conference, and has long been a solid baseball conference. I say we should stay where we are and continue building the program for the possibility of a much more significant move in the future.

As for your comment, "it's always Sun Belt fans wanting to realign, not CUSA fans", I find that hilarious. Tulane, ECU, Houston, Tulsa, and I don't recall who else all bolted from C-USA and EVERY SINGLE TEAM there today would bolt in a New York second if the AAC called. Would you not agree? In that respect, C-USA isn't a gnat's a$$ different than the Belt.

C-USA has been the conference with the revolving door, and C-USA has also been on of the worst G-5 offenders for looking down its prestigious nose at the Sun Belt althewhile poaching teams from the league when it can't hold onto its own members.

As for NB61 whining about Belt fans comparing their conference to others, for Pete's sake, we're talking about athletic competition here folks. The only fans I could imagine not wanting to know how their team/conference was doing against others are those who are afraid what the results might reveal. Oh wait, nevermind, I just solved the mystery.

App State wants to be in an FBS conference with as many natural rivals as possible. Once CUSA's current tv deal is over that will be more important to both conferences and perhaps logic will prevail, not holding my breath.

By the time CUSA's current TV deal expires, we should all know a lot more about what the future holds for G-5 conferences in general. I think that at some point, every G-5 conference will come to realize that we're all among the unwashed masses as far as P-5 conferences are concerned. Would it make a difference if all G-5 conferences worked together for the overall good of G-5 athletics? I have no idea, but one thing is certain. Doing things the way we have hasn't worked out very well for any of us.

No joke. Whatever we are doing now is not working. Killing each other off is exactly what the P5 wants.

I would rather be in a conference with better football and less d-bags than one with an undeserved TV contract from piggy backing on the teams that have already abandoned the C-USA and using it to look down on other conferences.

And thats when this will all start breaking down and some schools will realize they are better off playing the schools within a 5 hour driving radius than flying the tennis team an entire day with 2 connecting flights.

Just a year or so ago CUSA was a very different conference not saying we wouldn't move but I don't think the fans especially educated ones care to go anymore... I personally would consider it a lateral at best

Is this group really superior to our group?

Other than conference name recognition which leads to better TV contracts, I really don't see anything in in the group listed above that will put a better overall product on the field than our current 11..Give our newbies a few years and I like our potential to run past C-USA on a consistant basis..

Rice was a founding member of the Southwest Conference where their main contribution on the athletic front was to serve as an easy win for the rest of the conference..

Southern Miss used to be a giant killer but they are 1-23 the last 2 years.

ODU is a newbie no different than our own..

UNCC has never played a game..

And the rest we know well....

Not trying to knock the C-USA, but I just dont see any more potential there than I see in the Sunbelt...

there is more to sports than football. CUSA was created as a basketball conference. CUSA used to be a four to five bid conference on a regular basis. CUSA was considered a Major Conference for basketball. CUSA was created in large part as a way to have a home for the football programs of Basketball first schools.

UAB, ODU, UNCC, WKU, UTEP are basketball first universities. for basketball CUSA is far superior to the Sunbelt.

what you need to realize is that the only way for lower level conference to make a name for itself is through BASKETBALL.
Football may be king but college football is a feudal system. There is no upward mobility on the conference scale. the odd university might find favor though feats of valor on the fields of battle and find themselves lifted from the lower classes to the ranks of minor nobility. that is the exception rather than the rule and with the new geopolitical landscape of college football the exceptions are becoming more rare. In todays reality its going to be a lot more realistic to be respected as a basketball power than a football power. the simple truth is the powers that be don't give a **** if you run the table in the sun belt or cusa in football for three years running. they don't respect us and will discount such success as meaningless. In basketball we can beat them on the biggest stage on equal footing. In basketball we can force them to respect us.

Its simple. We'll know that the SBC has caught and passed CUSA the FIRST time a SBC member turns down an invitation from CUSA.

or a C-USA school accepts a Sun Belt invite.

And to simply reinforce this point you need look no further than the Athletic budgets for each school in the two conferences. It's not that complicated.

I guess when you're on the bottom it's natural to compare yourselves to those above you. Funny that the C-USA board is not so preoccupied; I wonder why?
