Screw 'em. Just raise some eyebrows in the tournament and then they'll have to respect you.

Its the same in basketball and football. We simply have to do better against quality OOC opponents as a conference. If we don't...no soup for you!

Substitute them with another DII for all I care and your basketball program can cry every year they miss out on at-large bid.

Yep. I went over the numbers with you guys time and again last year. You literally had nothing on your resume. If you want to go 12-0 OOC and 14-2 in conference, don't come cry here when you get left out because you played 11 home games against RPI 100+ teams and 1 road game @Depaul

We totally crapped the bed against Louisville, it will be hard to gain respect with the voters because of it.

You should perhaps go back and take a closer look at last year's schedule. We had buy games at Arizona and at Wichita State. We led Arizona by 8 at the half and Wichita State by 11 at the half, which is why I think Nasty isn't calling those two "whore games". We ultimately lost both games by 8 points. Our problem last year wasn't who we scheduled, but the fact that we didn't win any of our rpi top 50 games. Middle Tennessee got the final at-large spot last year because Ole Miss beat Missouri and Florida in the SEC tournament and improved their rpi from 56 to 50. This not only gave Middle Tennessee an rpi top 50 win, but it served as a prime mover in taking their rpi from one spot below ours after their early exit in the Sun Belt Tournament to two spots ahead of us in the final ranking.

I agree we were star struck that night, but it's the overall perception of the conference that is the issue....that game has no overall negative value if we lose the cusa tourney, yet only have 5 or 6 overall losses.
It would be helpful if we could get into a better early december tournaments. Our ooc schedule this year wasn't as bad a last year.
...and Nasty doesn't have a clue. 49er nailed it...

So, you literally had nothing on your resume. Playing good teams well doesn't make your resume worth anything. Buy games are sometimes necessary, and they give you a shot at top competition. Without Louisville on this year's schedule, what prospects did Southern Miss have in the way of good wins? I want you guys to be good. I want you to go to the dance and win games. I just don't feel like getting rid of buy games altogether is going to help that out at all until you can get real teams to play at your place. We all have that problem.

It doesn't in cusa, but it does have value in other conferences based on the perception of "those" conferences.
Witchy is shamefully a two seed according to bracketology experts to date...
It's not an enigma why it's easier to win as a higher seed.
The whole thing reminds me of the guineas....keepin' it in the famiglia is what it's all about
edit: I'll even go out on a limb and predict that the catholic split from the big east could generate thought in others creating another basketball conference or two with those that are sick of dealing with the football greedy bastards

For the record btw, the Arizona game wasn't a "buy" game. We were already scheduled to go out to NMSU, and Arizona had an open date, so they actually came to us to ask us if we were interested in playing. We'd have been DUMB not to accept that offer.
It turned a NMSU-La Tech road trip to a NMSU-Arizona-LT road trip, as we were giving NMSU all they could handle for a while, and even Arizona fans had admitted we outplayed Arizona that day, and the officials screwed us over.
That road trip put us on some teams radars last year, even with the losses, as we'd beaten Georgia, but there was some concerns about how good Georgia "really was".
I would love to see us get in a great early tourney again (see 2012, Great alaska shootout - UC Irvine, new mexico state, Murray State)

totally agree, but don't tell nasty....we're dumb getting paid to play those games....
very good post....december tourneys are critical for USM IMO.....just forget scheduling the home/homes until we upgrade the yurt and continuously invest in the future....all we've done is sit on our ass.....wish I could post what a 'car dealer' told me a week before DT got his pittance mid-season raise....sometimes I claw my eyes like I have pupillary eczema

That's the stupidest thing I ever read on here...LOL...Arizona wasn't a "buy" game, but we went there without a return game. What the heck do you think a buy game is?.... If it was up to some of our dumb fans, we would be in the SWAC where they sell all their OOC games. Hilarious!
