UAB must win both games next week. The Tulsa win gives UAB a little momentum after a disappointing loss at North Texas.

Both games are important, but ODU game is key for momentum and staying in the CUSA race. Have a good feeling about it playing at home, though.

Also the ability for the Blazers to gain some ground with two wins. With a win Thursday night, we are guaranteed to gain a game on two current Top 4 teams. We would also leapfrog the FAU/Charlotte loser.

The Monarchs are only a 6 pt underdog at UAB this week? Who would have thought that coming into this year? Looking forward to rekindling the old rivalry from our Sunbelt days!

That stay in Mobile at the Sun Belt tournament was short.

RE: Standings after Week 3 of CUSA play/ Week 4 games
Cry me a river. There is one name in recent memory that my family only speaks with the most vile of thoughts, and that is ROBERT VADEN. Not since General Sherman has an outsider threatened to burn down a Virginia city in such complete devastation, until Mr. Vaden came along. The Smitty family has an adopted dog, allowed it to get fleas and the mange, given it no food for 5 years, yet paid for a canine sex change (while leaving the male organs intact, confusing the more alpha dogs in the neighborhood). We kick it daily, tie it up, and allow the neighbor's Chihuahua to violate it at every opportunity. That dog is named ROBERT VADEN, for what his namesake did to my Monarch team on our home floor, several years ago.

Here is the highlight of that awful day.

Here is to a once-great rivalry (from the 80's) being reborn. UAB holds much meaning to to the more "mature" ODU fans, and we relish the opportunity to get at it again!

Vaden had 8 three pointers and 28 points at Old Dominion. When they returned the game to Bartow his senior year, Vaden had 6 three pointers, but shot 8-23. He had 27 points.

Thursdays game against ODU is the anniversary of the infamous 1986 game in which the game was almost called due to fans throwing things on the court and the cops being called to the floor and an UAB assistant coach was almost arrested.

Tune in to Today in blazer History on Thursday.

Tune in to Today in blazer History on Thursday.

I was a student at that game at Norfolk Scope, and it was a big ESPN game between SunBelt teams with postseason hopes. IIRC, the SunBelt had one of its better years, with 4 teams (UAB, UNCC, WKY, and ODU) all on the national radar.

That game was actually stopped for about 20 minutes when a "brick" was found in one of the student sections after half of the UAB bench went into the stands for some "intense" discussions. Luckily, nobody was hurt and the game ended peacefully (UAB pulled away).

Rivalries are HUGE for a conference to suceed, and the opportunity for old SunBelt foes to once again start solid animosity is critical for CUSA success going forward. I look forward to the day when a visit from UAB, UNCC, or WKY means that our students and alum raise their rivalry games in response.

Oh and by the way, I kicked the mutt, ROBERT VADEN, in his mangina prior to typing this message.

I think Vaden is living in Cuba now trafficking exotic animals. If not, he should be.
