Toledo area HS wrestling - OT
Looks like some of the NW Ohio area teams and individuals are making a nice comeback from the glory years of the late - 60's and early 70's.

Several NW Ohio wrestlers ranked in the the Top 4 of the state. Actually too many to list. Best of the best

D-1:
Trey Grine - Fremont Ross
Rocco Caywood - P'burg
J.P. Newton - P'Burg
Matt Stencil
Nick Stencil
Richie Screptock
etc., etc

So many forfeits. Seems like many teams can't field a full roster.

Alex Mossing of Toledo Central Catholic is looking to defend his state title this season. CCHS is having yet another strong wrestling season.

Too bad the dual between TCC and Clay was cancelled due to weather. Would have been very close. The TRAC championship is going to come down to Clay and TCC with no other team in contention - as it has been for several years now.

Huge match on Wednesday between P'burg and Clay in the Regional finals of the State Team Dual championships. Match is in Elyria and I believe the winner faces the winner of Elyria and (forgot who) for a trip to Columbus. The winner of P'burg and Clay will should easily get by winner of the other dual. I have a feeling P'burg wins the dual - but there are some very key match-ups out there. Stencil vs. Caywood and potentially N. Stencil (5th at state last year at 160) vs. Newton (3rd at state last year at 152). Newton may bump up to face Stencil depending on the team scores. Otherwise he probably gets a pin and so would Nick Stencil if they stay in their weight classes. Newton beat Stencil last year after bumping up.

P'burg is loaded this year.

Central Catholic just won the DII team duals regional championship.

The TRAC tournament is taking place as of right now. Finals are set. There are 10 Central Catholic wrestlers in the finals and 10 Clay wrestlers in the finals. Clay is currently leading followed by Central Catholic right behind...then the rest of the teams who are not even close to the top 2.

I was going to go down to watch it - but too much snow to venture out for a 2 hour drive each way to Fremont.

Is it being streamed or on Track wrestling?

Might as well update the status as of this morning.

Clay loses to Lakewood St. Eds by a score of 35-20.
TCC beats Lancaster 37-27
Delta beats Blanchard in a tight one 70-8.

Delta wins the state dual championship again in Div. 3. They have 4 freshman, 5 sophomores and 2 juniors in their line-up. They graduate just 3 starters. Growth could hurt them if guys get jammed up in the lower weights. But could be a top 25 nationally ranked team next year.

Toledo CC lost a surprisingly close match to St. Paris Graham by a score of 42-25. They got a surprise win when Lucas Beauch beat nationally ranked Alex Marinelli 8-6 at 160. Graham won the state title - no surprise there.

Great to see Central Catholic return to the Division II state semifinals for the 2nd straight year. St. Paris Graham has won 14 straight DII state titles so they were the heavy favorite. CCHS split with them winning 7 matches and losing 7. Graham had a few more bonus points.

Massillon Perry won the DI championship by crushing both Lakewood St. Eds and then Brecksville in the final. To put that in perspective, Perry only won 3 of 14 matches in a dual against Blair Academy - a NJ prep school that gets kids from all over the country. A kid from the Dayton-Cinci area is going to school there now. They cannot compete in the state championships in NJ because they are a boarding school.
