RE: UAB to open Montgomery medical campus
Is the regional campus in Tuscaloosa labeled as a "UAB" campus? I knew we owned that basketball coliseum, but this is news to me.

The one in Huntsville is labeled as UAB. Of course, it's also the one people cringe about when they hear you're going there.

I'm gonna just say it,
If we "split" would the one in Montgomery go to us or us?
Don't act like some of you didn't think that

Guilty. Although a part of me wonders if the Bot is moving to create an alternate medical center for the UA system when the inevitable split occurs and we get Bham.

Yes they are all branch campuses of the UAB medical school. Groups of medical students are assigned to do their 3rd and 4th year clinical rotations at each site.

RE: UAB to open Montgomery medical campus
It doesn't surprise me it's being opened. UAB has had a residency program there since at least the 90s. This move will further solidify UAB's footprint in the state. Students who train at the branch campuses tend to go into primary care and remain in the state. In Huntsville at least a large percentage return to the community to practice.

The number of medical students to attend that campus is a good deal smaller than the Huntsville and Tuscaloosa campuses. I wonder how long it will take the Montgomery campus to increase it's numbers to be on par with the others.

I think we're 3-0 in their little gym.

We beat Western Kentucky and Kentucky in our first NCAA tourney in Coleman Colesium and beat UAT there in 1993.

So we "own" Coleman Coliseum figuratively, not literally...

The doctors there are notoriously difficult to get in touch with, partly because the rotate in and out. It's not uncommon for someone to call there 3 or 4 times over the course of a couple weeks and no one call you back. We've even had a patient whose resident ended his or her rotation without signing orders and we could find no record of where he or she went; we couldn't find an NPI; and we couldn't find anyone to sign our orders. We ended up having to discharge her, and she had to start back over with another doctor.

Kind of. The CCHS in Tuscaloosa pushes itself hard as UA and downplays UAB as much as possible, at least outwardly. Isn't it also part of UA and reporting jointly to the UA President and the UAB School of Medicine?

It's certainly not a UAB logo on the front of the building like Huntsville, that's for sure.

I don't think this is news anyway. I thought I heard that this was in the planning stages last year sometime? Maybe before Carol Garrison left

I suspect the ownership referred to is spelled "58-56".
