I would hope so, seems like Ohio has been looking forward to that game for a while.

I'm so glad that game is going to be on ESPNU. Should be a great game with a great atmosphere. I see it as a good showing for the MAC.

It was a nice "Green Out" for Ohio. 7,479 green seats vs. 1,361 that showed for the white out...

I think EMU lacks the one go to guy like Earl Boykins, Marcus Kennedy ('91), etc. who are all-MAC, MAC POY, etc. players.
We have a lot of good players, but not the one stud who carries the team in crunch time.

I was glad I made the trip, and not just because of the outcome. The arena is first class, and the the EMU fans were nice. A phallocentric visit to both the water tower and the Wurst Bar topped off a great trip to Ypsilanti. I'll definitely return.

Thanks. The arena is very nice with very nice sightlines, etc. Bet parking was easy (EMU has buses for the students so hundreds of students don't even drive to the arena).
Yes, the water tower is historic and some think keeps EMU co-eds focused on what they might do on a cold night in January.
As far as attendance, even though the crowd was small by Ohio, Toledo, etc. standards, it would have been okay is another 400 - 500 hundred showed.
I'd guess that with better weather say another 300 - 400 might have attended.

this was EMUs second largest crowd but the largest crowd of the season was twice as big. How did EMU get 2600 to the season opener against a non D1 opponent?

It is education day. Thousands of elementary students attend each year.

I have to say this in defense of EMU students and alumni: how can you hold not attending the games in person against the fans when you have to watch 40 minutes of zone each and every night? I literally find watching paint dry more appealing than enduring the brand of ball that Murphy is offering, results be damned.

BTW, this is why it was a 'white out*' and a lot of fans couldn't make it:
"The fresh 3.5 inches of powder brings Metro Detroit’s record-breaking January snow total up to 38.1 inches, pushing well ahead of the old record of 29.6 inches set in January 1978."

Dear D.A.,
Then watch paint dry. I love it when your team wins, and then you still find something to criticize about the team you beat. You really need to watch paint dry.

Yes, heaven forbid someone share their opinion on watching zone basketball...

Dear Eagle66,
You and most of the other Ohio fans just don't know how to be gracious winners. You have to rip your opponents whether it's attendance, opponents offense or defense, facilities, whatever. You just don't get it, and then you wonder why people on this board don't exactly like you.

Just wondering but how is talking about how hard it is to watch 40 minutes of zone defense a rip of anybody?

Without getting into this scrum, one thing which makes EMU games kind of hard to watch is that both teams usually play mediocre offense.
If our offense was better, the game would flow better.
Two offenses which are miss firing leads to not exciting games. Remember the games Wisconsin used to play?

Show me a post where I have ripped any team for any of that. I made a comment about you giving someone a hard time for voicing their opinion on watching a style of basketball. I wouldn't have cared what school they were a fan of. But hey, don't let facts get in the way of your story.

I was going to try to come up with a snarky, quippy response Ken, but frankly it wasn't worth the effort. I made a quite literal and sympathetic post regarding the EMU fan base and Murphy's style of defense that would apply to other basketball teams also, and you just flip out. It has absolutely nothing to do with who won or lost the game, and I turned the game off at the half, due in large part to the fact that Christian actually put OHIO in a zone for a while, and I simply couldn't watch that drivel any longer.
If OHIO played zone as their primary or exclusive style to defense, I would no longer watch them play.
Please let us know how we should post sympathetic comments in the future so that they meet your satisfaction.

Results are all that matters. The zone has literally nothing to do with the reason that people don't come to games. If that were the case, then Syracuse wouldn't pack the Carrier Dome every night since, you know, that is the exact same defense we run.
The zone isn't our problem...it's our offense. But if you're turning off games half way through and comparing an aspect of basketball to "watching paint dry", you probably are beyond convincing otherwise. Sorry our team bores you.
