A view of Coach C
I have followed Coach Creighton since the late 90's, and have a few observations I'd like to throw out.

*At Wabash the recruiting pitch had to be something that included:
1. "We only need students with top academic transcripts, because the rigor here is competitive with many of the top schools in the country."
2. "We don't have scholarships,so you will need to pay your way" (at private school rates).
3. "We'd like your best players" (and since he he won multiple championships & made a few impressive runs in the D3 playoffs, he tended to get them).
4. "Oh yeah, we don't have any girls at the school, because we are one of only 4 all-male colleges in America."
...so if he can recruit & win in those circumstances, I would not worry about his ability to draw excellent recruits (character, ability, etc.) to anywhere. His recruiting & winning at Drake was accomplished under similar circumstances (minus the extra chromosome bit).

*Your son would LOVE to play for him. He does nothing halfheartedly, and he dreams big. Think about those trips abroad. How many college coaches put forth the tremendous effort that it takes to go to another country to play a game? Not many.
Now of those coaches, how many were the 1st to take their teams to Panama? Tanzania? Both of those trips were his dream. They happened because he knew that the players who went on those adventures (and the communities they visited) would be impacted in immeasurable ways. Don't skip over the part where some of his players: flew across the Atlantic to Africa; played a Mexican University team in maybe the 1st organized football game played on the African continent; helped build an orphanage; & then climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. Another way to see it - how many FBS football players have passports?

*He will never embarrass EMU. You might roll your eyes at some of his spirit (the boys had better learn the words to the fight song), or wonder whether he is to tough with his discipline (he means what he says, for all of his players). You might question his coaching pedigree or contacts. What won't happen is Coach Creighton getting EMU plastered on the sports pages for the wrong reasons.

*He ABSOLUTELY knows he will change the culture at EMU. He would not have come unless he knew, with little doubt, that his teams would become great. He inspires those around him with that same confidence. His coaching staff will become the reflection of this confidence (not to worry about where they are from, they will believe that EMU will win the MAC). The players going through winter training are more than likely, coming to the conclusion that the Fall of 2014 will be radically different. I would watch the month of September for UF & MSU to be forced to play 4 physical quarters.

I believe EMU fans will look back at this hiring with great satisfaction & pride. I look forward to watching it happen.

Thanks, however just for clarification EMU has a history of great guys and with good character being hired as football coaches and not putting us on the headlines as a scandal.

However we do make the headlines as the worst attended FBS football games and our reputation as doormats.

I hope CC changes all that but I've hoped before-many good men have tired to change EMU football and many have failed.

Trust me EMU football will the highest mountain CC and staff have ever climbed.

Thanks for the post. I think CC and staff will have their hands full this next year with FBS teams. It takes time to learn the new staff, the players, and react to the speed of FBS teams.

Because of the team chemistry, staff chemistry, and MAC chemistry; speed, size, schedule, next year will be very interesting to watch the team grow.

Players love results especially winning so an over achieving team will be great for next year's recruits, and for the fans to get onboard. High school coaches and players will see what EMU is actually doing on and off the field.

With that said it will be interesting to see how the MSU staff handles the recent security body slam incident at Cass Tech yesterday, involving their 4 star QB recruit! Does he get a second chance or land in jail? Hopefully he gets anger management counseling.

Interesting to think about, if all the major BCS teams pass on him due to his behavior and he wanted to go to Eastern, would CC consider taking a chance on him?

Well, if the guy doesn't allow cursing I doubt he's too keen on assault. No thanks.

Probably doesn't fit the offense anyway, from what I expect.
