RE: Panel Discussion on Bloomberg Network with Aresco,Swarbrick and others
Good post. Swarbick gave the best information and insight; the commissioners just parroted what we have been hearing for a while. The most interesting segment came about 8 minutes in where Swarbick said "structural changes" will come before the stipend/pay for play is settled. Translation: Core changes in the NCAA structure, whether the schools who want stipends are part of it or do their own thing, will occur before stipend/pay guidelines are established. Nothing earth shattering, but it does give a hint about what a major player sees as a timeline.

Ben Sutton is a straight shooter, for sure. It is nice to see an interview from Bloomberg instead of a network with interests in college athletics. Bloomberg did not pull any punches with the questioning.

Umm, that's not really a hint. The rule changes really can't go into effect until the structure changes. That's not a revelation at all, but common sense. The P5 can't pass rules that fit them until the structure is in place for them to do so. That's why I've said that even if they get these structural changes in place by August 1, that many rule changes (especially tricky ones like the stipend issue) would take at least one more season to implement, if not longer.
