Don't look now but we are a full game up on every team in the MAC right now.

It's not a rivalry game.

I respectfully disagree New Mex,despite the fact the game for the most part was a 5-12 point affair throughout, Toledo just was T.C.O.B. IMO
Comprende ?

RE: NIU-Toledo game thread
I'll take the win. We didn't play poorly and were never really threatened. I would like to see more desire and the will to blow out teams like this. You never know when team will start chucking in 3's in bunches. You want more of a buffer on teams that you should put away much earlier in the game. Once in command of the game, the team goal should be adjusted to win by 20 to keep players motivated. Kansas and most other top 20 teams would have easily achieved this. I think it is a motivation thing because we are a much better team than NIU.

I think Akron is still 4-1 in conference play, but as for the West, this is true. There seem to be a lot of competitive teams in the MAC this year. The BUGS upset Ohio last night in Athens. Not many doormats. I think we are going to have to play a tad more consistent and with a chip on our shoulder if we want to win the conference straight up. We have the talent, hopefully we have the will.

RE: NIU-Toledo game thread
Toledo Mike, that's really all I want--I think it's reasonable to want a Rocket team with this talent & experience to play with more consistency and focus, 18 games into the season, particularly at home. We have balanced some amazing play (the beatdown of Akron, a gritty, tough win against Buffalo, the home game against Detroit, even the loss at Kansas) with some less motivated play (the loss at Western, and home wins against Northern & Central). Right now, the MAC appears to be in it's usual balance, where several losses could still win the conference, and I get that. If we continue through the season and play to the level of our competition while winning at the same time, then I really will have no complaint! I'm hoping that the team will raise its level of play Sunday against Kent State, and recent experience certainly suggests that they will.

Actually I think that this was a let-down game; however, the Rockets are good enough to beat a lot of weaker teams even with a let-down game. They have to be careful though, because, unlike those great John Wooden teams, most good teams can not have a let-down game and still expect to defeat another good team.

P.S.: Has anyone carefully read the new NCAA directives on fouls? I wonder if there is any fine print in there about refs being paid commissions based on the number of fouls they call?

They are and Buffalo probably will be. I think he's counting the tie-breaker as a game. If those teams end up tied record wise we win top seed based on the head-to-head, but yeah-Akron is tied with us overall.

Division means squat. Need to be one of the top 2 seeds to get the double bye to the semis. Makes life easier when you only have to win 2 games in Cleveland.

I was starting to worry a bit about EMU and OU, but after last night I'm feeling better. We play both twice.
