That is fine. Congrats on your CIT win. Persoanlly however, I would be embarrased if my team played in a tournament lower than the NIT. That is not a shot at ECU. It is a personal view.

I will gladly take your complete season RPI ranking above Charlotte every year if it involves Charlotte losing first round of NIT and ECU winning CIT.

Great, so go talk CUSA 3.0 basketball and bond with your friends why don't you. We'll be gone soon enough.

I didn't think ECU was still in CUSA, then realized that the page I was on only showed the top 12 teams in the league.

That's funny, if we look at the top 12 conference in America the last generation of college students CUSA 3.0 wouldn't show up either.

Last year you were 16-4 against rpi 100+ (Inferrior teams by your rankings) and 3-8 against similar and better competition. For comparison, Charlotte was 13-3 against inferior and 8-9 vs. similar. Tell me who had the better year?

Excellent post. Many folks confuse what rpi really means. It doesn't necessarily mean the quality of your own team but more how the teams you played did. 75% of an rpi is not about your team but about how your opponents did.

great you know the RPI formula just like anyone else that wants to look it up. Here are the end of year ranks with all that added up last year.

http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2013/rpi

ECU #67
UNCC #81

and the complete season graded. I didn't say we had the better year the RPI formula, Pomory and Sagarn etc did that all graded us higher after the season. UNCC would have to finish ranked higher this year and the next 2 just to match us under our current coaches. Either way there hasn't been 2 craps difference in our programs under these staffs execpt now you are in your own words not mine moving back a level of conference. You see how that worked out last time.

I've never said anything about Charlotte and didn't want to get in that fight. I was just making the point that rpi isn't necessarily what you think it is. If rpi is a rating of how great a team is, tell that to Florida and Michigan who finished #8 and #11 in that index you posted. Both made it to the Final Four last year. Louisville finished #2 in that rating but was national champion. Rpi can sometimes be an indicator of how good a team is but is not everything. There are teams that schedule well, lose by large margins to good teams but finish with higher rpi's because the teams they played did well. In essence, rpi is about scheduling, not necessarily about results.

If you really think the teams that had the strongest overall season always make it to the final 4 you are smoking rock. They are good teams but a lot of times they are good teams that are healthy and hot at the time and beat a few teams they probably shouldn't have along the way if not a complete flukey run like from an 11 seed like VCU or Mason.

Which is a great stat because basketball games are played over a three year average.

Since when did the average college student take only 3 years to graduate? If you're going to use a number to represent the last generation of college students, it should at least be four years and probably five.

I didn't want to take the time to average this half of a year so far when it's just going to change, besides you can look at the current RPI's and see it's 15th and that is a far cry from top 12.

Exactly, of course we all know why he doesn't want to. Because, he has to mold every possible stat so it makes ECU out to look as strong as possible and we know thats not easy to do.
