I think he is from Virginia, also. It gets old being a UC fan - one step forward, two steps back when it comes to coaches/athletic department stability. You would think I'd be used to it by now, though.

LOL...someone asked in a thread last week what Whit thought about the prospects of the P5 making its own rules separate from the NCAA....I said you will know exactly what he thinks about our prospects to compete the minute his name is released in conjunction with a P5 job interview.

Here is your answer, folks.

Yea the Courant is not only referencing a Virginia Tech blog not associated with the university, but a FORUM post on that blog. Fail.

The biggest concern regarding the AD position is stability. Does everyone on this board believe Whit has done a good job? I think you can make an argument that he has done well on the two high profile football related matters.

well we had what some people call mike thomas a terrible ad but we did pretty well in athletics, of course you could argue that if we had someone better earlier we might not be in the aac.

when tubs is ready to retire maybe he takes the ad job and gives the head coach position to gran? 05-stirthepot

Oh, crap. He's from Harrisonburg, VA...about a two hours drive north on I-81 from Virginia Tech (Blacksburg). I hope this rumor dies quickly.....

Hopefully it is as accurate as the Dude's tweets about Whit becoming the AD at WVU a few months back.

I wouldn't call it a finalist with 5 other people involved. Think a blogger was name grabbing. I wont worry about it til theres another source.

I'm afraid UC's future as well as UConn's has been revealed. All we need for further clarification is for USF's AD to show up as one of the candidates.

I agree. From all we know, Whit has done a fine job for UC. ADs have become more like coaches in recent years; moving up the food chain every few years for more pay and prestige. Virginia Tech is an excellent institution with a considerably larger athletic budget. Will that outweigh the quality of life in Cincy vs. Blacksburg, VA? Only he and his family can make that decision if he is offered.

If so, UC will hire well based upon the trajectory of the football program and facilities. And Whit would likely be another well placed ally in the ACC. I don't read too much into it either way regarding our P5 prospects.

No worries... USF's AD got canned recently.

The new Virginia Tech president was the interim president at Purdue. He and his wife are the ones who personally walked Butch Jones around Purdue for his interview.

Not that I think they talked to Whit at the time, of course. There probably would have been no reason for it.

When your AD is doing a good job his name will come up. Hope he sticks around to see the completion of the Nippert renovation.

Whit's a great AD. Of course other schools will come sniffing around. Would hope he stays here for a long time, but if he moves on, I'm reasonably confident Ono will make a good hire. If he does go to VTech I think he's had a positive experience here, so having another inside guy in the ACC who could be a UC advocate can't hurt...

As my daughter says: When other schools are NOT looking at your coach/AD, that's when you are in trouble.

Anyone know if Whit likes Skyline? This could be the deciding factor.

If you replace Skyline with "being near civilization" I think it would be a much more reasonable question.

Blacksburg is near the dark side of the moon is it not?
