SBC Officially Ranked Top Non AQ league for 2013
We were going to finish 2nd, but The Cajuns and ASU's victory in the bowl games put us over the top. League pockets an additional 1.4 million in revenue sharing as a prize to be split amongst 2013 membership.
I thought this needed a new thread. Been confirmed several places. I expect the league to make an official announcement sometime soon.
Next year the top prize for G5 is much higher.

Yup .. this is what I said in the other thread. Thanks to the MACs 0-4 and our 2-0, enough to push us over the top. Expect some of the funds to be used towards working on another bowl tie in

Last year the AAC was a AQ conference. That's one reason how UCF was in the fiesta bowl.

Not having to compete against the AAC in 2013 was an advantage, but not convinced they will be overly strong and unbeatable during the coming years as they seem to think. Still a good year for the SBC overall. We do need one or two teams to really be good the next few years to get the solid conception in everyone's eyes that we are the G5 conference to beat, like was said. Would really like to see the bottom of the conference do better against OOC. Wouldn't do anything in particular, except help perception also, but would be noticed.

It has not been pubically distributed yet, but the schools have been informed.

And now we take on two bottom dwellers and 2 FCS teams...wish we could have kept this momentum.

I'd sure like to see a link to this story as well, even asked for one in the other thread. Also like to rub a few noses in it while I'm at it because I get so sick and tired and others looking down their pompous noses at us.

You guys get a vote of confidence from me. While I don't know a lot about GaSouthern, what I do know seems very positive....a history of winning and that's what counts. In fact, looking at the FCS teams, seems like AppS and GaSouthern were probably two of the best the Belt could have added. Welcome aboard, kick some a$$.

And yet you were only able to beat GSU by 2, USA by 1 and got got blown out by Memphis...
Just love these thread derailments. Conference will be great in football.

RE: SBC Officially Ranked Top Non AQ league for 2013
From the article in that other thread:
The Sun Belt is the only league among the mid-majors that will have fewer than a dozen teams for the foreseeable future, as its most solid programs migrate to Conference USA and a slew of FCS schools rise up to fill the absences. However, the two I-AA schools it welcomes next year might just be better in the long run than the schools that are ditching the conference. Between them, Georgia Southern and Appalachian State have won nine FCS national championships and played in two other title games. While they are likely to have an adjustment period to I-A football, the Eagles and Mountaineers also have the potential to be the next Marshall or Boise State.

I'm glad to see that the writer sees that potential in us and App. Now we just need to rise to the occasion and produce.
I think most people here would agree that while we want to beat each other in football, we still want the programs doing well over all, because that makes things better, and gains all of us more respect. I can't wait for football season to start again.

RE: SBC Officially Ranked Top Non AQ league for 2013
I'm not terribly worried about App and Southern in football and baseball. They past record of success and playing in the SoCon, which is one of the better FCS conferences and DI baseball conferences, lead me to believe they won't hurt. Basketball is another story, but Apps Commissioner's Cup wins tell me most Olympic sports won't be negatively impacted much.
As for Idaho and NMSU, I can't help but be optimistic. NMSU has the budget and decent facilities. Why they haven't won much is interesting, but they have the pieces. Idaho has made good runs of late and with Peterson out at Boise, it creates opportunity. Kibbie Dome is a concern, but it is what it is.
That said, I think UL-L will maintain their performance level. I hope Arkansas State will too. I think TXST, USA and Georgia State will improve from last year. Troy is a question mark and only a Browning-less ULM have their work cut out to maintain their stature. SBC football should improve as a whole even from last year.

Despite their miserable year this past year, I honestly believe GaState will surprise many this coming year. They were so close, so often. Eventually the worm turns.

Even if they win four games, they are still improving. That's what I see. Only one team with a challenge and a couple of teams question marks is pretty good.
I think that scheduling G5 competition is the key for the SBC's future. One money game a year, maybe one P5 home-and-home (I'd be leary of 2-1 home-and-home's) and the rest against G5 is the recipe for success.
