That is where the band used to be, not sure why it was changed.



This is from NCAA.ORG. It's a segment of the 2013 Host Operations Manual about pep band placement. The way it's worded kind of sounds like a tournament situation. Maybe they expanded the rule to cover the entire season?

Seating
Bands should be seated in comparable areas of the arena. End zones are preferred, with both bands on the same side of the court, seated opposite their respective team benches. Place bands so as not to interfere with spectators, photographers or teams, subject to the approval of the committee liaisons. Bands and cheerleaders will be provided seating when their team is not playing (for both sessions, regardless of whether their team is defeated in the semifinal match), if the venue is not sold out.
