We're already seeing that the new staff is widening the scope on where they're going after kids.
Oh no, that's what I meant. My comments above were not reflective of Withers and his staff at all. I was saying it seems the previous staff had a very short reach in regards to their recruiting footprint.
But we got a couple of QB's out of TX a few years back. Oh, that's right, one stuck it out for about 6 months and the other we got a year from, but he got into trouble. So, I guess TX was a dud for us. We did get excited with the news they were coming.
We also had a QB (and I think another player) out of CA...but they didn't stick, and they are the exception.
2 out of CA I think you might be referring to. (Looking at the roster over the last 3 seasons 11'-13' were actually 4):
-Kavon Seaton, from CA, transferred from Navy Prep. Started as a QB, moved to WR. On team for only 3 seasons.
-Max Spees was from CA, but granted he was a walkon, and only on team for 2 seasons.
-Lukas O'Conner- From CA, prepped in CT. Signed as QB last yr, moved to WR.
-Some kid lfrom CA on roster for a season, listed as a Fr TE in 11'. Had to be a walkon.
Looking back over the last 5 seasons, Besides the 2 from TX and the 4 from CA, looking at the roster over the last 5 seasons I there's a few more exceptions for JMU footprint VA and the northeast.
Were at least 8 from NC. Granted 3-4 were probably walkons, and I don't think there was one last season.
-Dixon Wright, starting placekicker for a couple of seasons
-DJ Brandon, started at LB 07'-08')
-Reggie Hicks (2 deep at LB),
-Chris Beaver- 3 yr starting LS
-Markus Hunter (played little)
3 more from NC that only lasted 1-2 seasons.
Also listed on team for 4 season (07'-10'), from Florida. Max Alexandre, was on 2 deep at DT, missed most of his rJr season in 10' to injury, didn't come back for a 5th yr.
Had Nick Emmons from Oregon by way of Army..
Oh yeah, had one from Pago, Pago, too..
