D4 possibly out...But how to become a part of P5?
I know the simple answer would be WIN WIN and WIN.

But strategically what could be done?

The first obvious step is to offer Stipend as well as P5.

What about going west and let Boise and Frenso in again? The AAC+ couple MWC can secure the sixth spot in the access bowl. But will that make enough for P5 autonomy power? The best of G5 certainly will have more voice in the NCAA D1 FBS.

What about some more bold moves? Wait the Maryland case and wait for the expansion wave begin again? What would be American's stance and strategy on the new front?

The going after the west scenario again isn't happening... I much rather the AAC remain as is, strengthen the conference with our current members and then (2-3 years) revise our embaresing $$$ joke pathetic contract.

I think we give the 12 a go like you said, but if future expansion is needed, we should definitely revisit the west before any other CUSA/MAC additions.

One scenario I can see is when MWC doesn't approve Stipend rule and force Boise out to the AAC.

Which teams out west you'd rather take to improve AAC's resume?

Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State, and Air Force/UNLV would probably be my top 5.

Can Boise St. afford the stipend? As I understand it, they are about as broke as anyone can be.

Those 5 and New Mexico state. So whom from AAC goes West to even out? Navy , SMU, Tulsa. Navy wanted West before and Tulsa and SMU are the farthest West. Would give the East one Texas and West one Texas school as dividing line.
could substitute Colorado State for New Mexico st if it lands AF.

I think all the AAC schools should offer fried pickles at home games for free.

I would want 4 to get to 16 for football. I guess we'd have to wait on the P5 to see if we can do pods or something other than 2 divisions.

Fresno State
San Diego State
Boise State
Air Force/UNLV

SMU
Houston
Tulsa
Tulane

Memphis
Cincinnati
UCONN
Temple

Navy
East Carolina
UCF
USF

There would be no G5 competition with this conference.

What if MWC approves Stipend rule?

What will be the incentive for Boise to leave MWC?

What will be the motive for American to want to add western wing again especially after the previous failure?

They probably will approve the stipend rule.

Boise would leave if other regional conference mates were leaving too (if they spoke with SDSU, Fresno, and Air Force/UNLV in a coordinated move).

Because if the AAC is going to expand, the best available options are schools in the MWC. They even make basketball stronger. The first time failed because Big East members were still defecting as these schools were being added. They didn't want to join an unstable conference.

In doing this most years the winner of the conference gets the one big boy bid which means instead of each of us competing with every team in every G5 conference for one bid we would only be competing with each other (similar to being in a P5 conference).

Boise's admin has proven to be untrustworthy, let em rot in purgatory for all I care.

it's not about helping boise...it's about helping each other. If we can make this conference come together you have to admit, while no guarantee, most years we are competing against each other for the auto bid i.e. you have a 1 in 16 chance of getting the big boy bowl bid. As it sits now its your team vs EVERY G5 team for that spot so, not sure how many G5 teams there are but it's got to be 50+ so that means you are competing for 1 of 50+. i'd rather compete 1 of 16.
