OT - NFL 3rd place game
One of my favorite games in the soccer world cup is the 3rd/4th place game. The finals tends to be conservative and not the best game, while the 3/4 game is, IMO more exciting and free.

What if the NFL had a 3/4 game between the losers of the AFC/NFC title games? Winner gets to host the next Superbowl - maybe that would be sufficient motivation to avoid the pro bowl quality play.

Thoughts?

that is a great idea

NFL had a 3rd place game into the 1960's.

RE: OT - NFL 3rd place game
This would be awesome. Injury concerns for the participating teams would have to be addressed. But if they're talking about expanding the schedule a couple games, than this may be a good compromise.

Americans do not play for third place, nor do American fans watch dead rubbers.

But that would take away from all the excitement of the Pro Bowl Game.

The 3rd place game at the Final Four was a dog...that's why they got rid of it.

Was there any benefit to winning?

Why should there be? And why would the NFL want to change how the Super Bowl is handed out? They make plenty of money the way it is.

No. The arena was usually half empty at the start of the consolation game. There was even 3rd place games at the Regionals until 1975. Last Final 4 consolation game was 1981.

Because the status quo isn't always the best thing. This adds 1 more game and could bring in more $$

Thanks. If this were to be implemented, a major incentive would be needed.

Double game checks for the winning team?
