Queston - What happened to our last women's tennis coach?
I know we hired the guy from TCU earlier this week, but was our last one let go or did they go elsewhere?

Probably too many unforced errors. It also could've been that our first serve % was low. And not to mention they haven't been a fixture on the FN Tennis Watch® for years now...

I've heard it had nothing to do with her coaching, but that's all I can get out of people. Being real quiet about it.

It just seemed like a strange time to have to hire a new coach.

If it was needed, then no time is strange.

Yeah, it would be weird to play for a coach you just met a couple of days ago, I'm pretty sure they play today don't they?

The Women's Tennis team had a really good season last year with a winning record. This year they play a tougher schedule but everyone really likes the new coach. The team is very excited, he knows his tennis and should be a good recruiter.

That's great, but it didn't answer the question of the thread.

I think that the non-answer answer is an answer.

I suspect something went down that those involved don't care to air in public, and perhaps that should be respected and not picked at.

Sounds about right.

We do, but they are busy spreading Women's Rifle rumors.

RE: Queston - What happened to our last women's tennis coach?
Believe it or not I had connections to Women's Tennis some years back. I remember when that coach first came, it was an abrupt change from the last coach, whose direction actually had the team ranked highly. He was a laid back coach but held a pretty tight ship. I think he went off to grad school or something.

When the new coach came, I think it was a little shocking for the players, as she was hardcore about practice. By the end of each season, most of the players would be injured, or at least injured at some time during the season. I don't think she was as highly regarded as the previous coach by the players, to put it in the most diplomatic way possible. A lot of... negative affect, if you will. Whether or not that had anything to do with getting the new coach, I have no idea. I haven't been associated with the program in a few years.

Mert Ertunga was a very good coach and convinced some very talented players to go to school at UAB. I saw him at the basketball games many times. He left to be with his family in Turkey about 8 yrs ago.

Mert's a friend of mine, was on the team with him for one year. He was a great coach. He went to grad school at Pitt and now lives in Paris.

The players I know loved her. And, there was another woman coach before her, forgot her name though.
