Lemoyne-Owen of all teams was making lay up after lay up...if it werent for us putting up 101 on them it would have been a competitive game. Our defense against penetration is pitiful and has got to change or we will continue to lose games. There are too many quick guards in this conference for us to be giving up the lane all the time. Our guys first instinct is to swat at the ball for a steal or jump for the block and its just not working. It worked for DJ last year but he could hang in the air for 30 seconds and wait for the ball to be in the right place so he could block it. That being said it seems that our guards may finally be shooting the ball and if we can improve our defense and not give up so much penetration I think we will win this conference. We have the best team in the conference.

Thats a gr8 point +......One of the main reasons why I feel that Pellom deserves the start.
Pellom actually plays with an accumin that our other players just dont embodie.

He gets in position for charges, and have actually had a couple of calls...

He dunks the ball with authority when he gets close to the tin...actually creating more & 1 opportunities.

He delivers pretty accurate passes into the low post(which seems to be an issue)

He also runs the floor very well and again seems to be able to finish even if a defender is challenging the shot

Over-all, I think we would receive a defensive jolt all around from his presence in the starting line up.....05-stirthepot

But for the life of me I can't understand how Coach Pastner thinks that Crawford can defend the 3 spot. Defense, at any position, is not his strong suit, in my opinion.

Worked in CUSA. Not in AAC.

A Pastner criticism!?!?!? From you?!?!?!? My god, has hell frozen over?

You are over the top as usual. I think JP's move to go to a 4 guard lineup late in the UCONN game cost us. We should try a 3/2 zone with Iverson/Wilson on the top, and 2 bigs down low.

That doesn't have to be labeled a Pastner criticism.

Most of us fans know zip about coaching. I'm a big Josh fan and Tiger fan, but that shouldn't disqualify someone for presenting an opinion. I think it shows our interest as fans. And, its what lots of fans have done since fans first crawled out from under a rock..

Got to learn to separate the haters from the fans with opinions.

And those are just opinions---in my opinion.

I'm not sure how else it can be construed; Pastner is the coach and he's the one playing Crawford at the 3. I'm all for constructive criticism and debate, but it was just an odd post coming from Cowboy, who is usually quick to defend Pastner and rip individual players apart.

That’s the same defense I suggested a couple of weeks ago. The good thing it would give opponents a very different look and help with fouls.

The bad thing is with Iverson & 2 bigs we couldn’t play the 3 guard set and so far coach hasn’t gone away from it all season.

RE: Chris Crawford
I liked the 2-3 against UConn in stretches (Pitino obviously did too, as he used it extensively on Saturday). We saw some 2-3 with King/Iverson/Wilson against LO, which I think is something newthat Pastner was trying to implement. King/Iverson's defensive liability is almost nulified in the zone, which is a plus.

The 3-2 is a different beast, and I'm not sure if we've tried that out. Nichols and Shaq are great bigs for the 3-2 though, as they can run the baseline well.

We played some 3-2 with Will Barton on top and it was effective. We also played some 3-2 with Spoon on top. What it did was force opponents to run set plays and get away from the motion everyone and his brother is playing a lot of these days.

We actually played the 1-3-1 with Barton on top and Joe running the baseline.
