Does your school have a Men's soccer team?
Georgia Southern has a men's team and I was wondering if any other Sun Belt schools sponsored the sport.

RE: Does your school have a Men's soccer team?
We had a great men's program until Title IX hit.
I thought GaSt was in CUSA for soccer???
Would like to see women's beach volleyball and men's soccer started at South, but with the recent meetings going on, who knows what programs will survive any school.

RE: Does your school have a Men's soccer team?
Let me ask a question. Why is Title IX always blamed for losses to men's programs. I realize it calls for equal opportunity, but let me introduce the following:
sports with the highest scholarship limit
FBS football - 85
FCS football - 63
DII football - 36
Women's Rowing - 20
Women's X-County/Track and field - 18
Men's & women's hockey - 18
Roster limit
NFL - 53
FBS - 105
regular season games played
NFL - 16
FBS - 12
maximum playoff games
NFL - 4
FBS - 3
FCS - 5
It seems to me that the cause for the men's decline istn't Title IX so much as it is just the huge amount of scholarships at the highest level. I would think that would be okay if there was a parallel with the NFL. But the professional ranks, where multi-billion dollars are at stake, has half the roster size for more games.
So I ask, doesn't it make sense that the bigger reason men's sports are cut is that football takes the Lions share of scholarships? In places that don't have football, like former SBC-member Denver, there are a lot of more obscure sports like men's ice hockey and wrestling. If the FBS limit were in the 70's and FCS limit were in the 50's, there'd be less of an issue with Title IX.

The future FBS will address your logic/idea with more football scholorships and pay for football players so a reduction is not a possible answer.

Way to wiff there champ. That is at all nothing of what I was getting at when I posted what I did. My last paragraph wasn't a proposal, but was saying Title IX gets the blame, yet football scholarships are high.
When people say wrestling or men's soccer aren't being offered because of Title IX, I counter with wrestling and men's soccer aren't being offered because football has so many scholarships compared to other sports and compared to the professional ranks.

The NFL has a 53 man active roster. They can also make trades, or sign new players, or call up practice squad guys at virtually any time.
So how many players does an NFL team REALLY have access to?
That's why there are so many NCAA players on scholarship.
