how many of them actually saw much PT at ND. Hendricks couldn't get ahead of Tommy what's his name. ND's bigger problem is they had 5 leave early for the NFL this year.

Yep, they are "win win" kind of scenarios.....good players who for a number of reasons (injury, just being beat out on the depth chart, etc.) who weren't going to see the field much at ND next year. They have all graduated (or will this spring) from ND and will take master's classes at Miami and will be eligible to play next season (all have one year of eligibility left). So, Coach Kelly didn't have a problem with releasing them from their scholarships since they weren't in his future plans and all of them may very well be able to contribute immediately at Miami where our talent is a little "thin" as you all know.
This ND QB tramsfer Hendrix has some experience and is expected to contend for the starting position, most likely against Tupa the younger. And Lo Wood was initially highly recruited and played a lot before he got hurt (Achilles tendon) in 2012 and then played in 11 games last year with 10 tackles and one INT, all as a reserve and special teams player......probably lost a step due to his injury... but he wiil likely challenge for a starting role for Miami in this interim year before Coach Martin has time to develop his own high school recruits.
I am very encouraged as to what I see from Coach Martin so far...he immediately went to his strong recruiting background from ND (ties w the big Catholic High schools) and grabbed Cincy Moeller QB Gus Ragland, who led his school to the Ohio State title. He only started one year at QB and was under-recruited, but he's a "winner" and I know Coach Martin wants to develop a good pipeline to the big private schools in Cincy (Moeller, St X) and elswhere in the state up in Toledo (St. Johns, St. Francis, etc.) and Cleveland.

I follow MAC recruiting and Midwest football recruiting very closely, I can tell you for a fact that all three of these players are solid. Now, Miami needs to find more players like this as the RedHawks recruiting efforts had seriously lagged over the past few years.

On one hand, the fact that Hendricks could not overtake Turnover Tommy as the Irish signal caller indicates there may not be much to be excited about. Hendricks did not do much with the game experience he had this past season. With an expected battle this next season between returning Everett Golson and RS Malik Zaire, Henricks looked at another year on the bench.
On the other hand, ND is a very, very tough place to play. Spotlight is on all of the time, Kelly is very tough, and some talent can’t overcome the pressure. Maybe Hendricks will be better with the bright lights off.

Well, given our seeming lack of talent at QB last year after our senior starter went down with a season-ending injury, Hendricks sure as heck has a better chance at seeing the field in Oxford vs. So. Bend. There are many on the Miami board who aren't convinced that Hendricks will even end up starting for Miami, but he might be a "place-holder" for Tupa to allow him some time to develop.

Not many recruits at those two schools you mentioned in Toledo. Central Catholic in Toledo is loaded with D1 recruits. Paul Moses is one of them who committed to Miami (OH) this season. I really wanted him at Toledo, hell of a ballplayer.

I'm not suggesting that he's the second coming of Roethlisberger, but that sounds a bit like him.
I agree on all counts about the rest of your points, I probably feel as optimistic as I possibly could about an 0-12 football team. I especially like that these players will know Martin's system and coaching style, they'll contribute on the field and be good leaders/mentors off of it.

I have a lot of old HS buddies in Cincy that follow HS sports closely, and they are very high on Ragland...we shall see. Martin's first HS recruiting class will be mostly all redshirt frosh next fall, so getting these ND castoffs (not my words, but the words of the very unclassy local So Bend newspapers) who can fill a void and immediately contribute for one year is a very welcome development.
