Kay will be among 110 draft-eligible seniors playing in the game Saturday (6 p.m. ET) at StubHub Center on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, Calif. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

Kay is on the National roster, led by former NFL coach Dick Vermeil. The American team is led by former NFL coach Dennis Green.

Kay in 2013 became only the fourth UC quarterback to throw for more than 3,000 yards in a season, with 3,302 yards, 22 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Kay also rushed for six touchdowns this past season, as UC went 9-4.

Kay set the school career mark for completion percentage (.654) and the single-season record for completions with 262. Kay’s 3,302 yards was the second-best single-season mark in school history.

I've been flipping back and forth so I've only seen him on a couple series. But what I've seen he doesn't look so hot.

Thought that was his first series. I missed the 1st qtr. He was 1-2 with a TD on that drive.

I glanced at the rosters and noticed each team has 4 QBs so I'm guessing we see only about a quarter from each of them.

There were 2 in the first half I think.

Kay is 2-2 on drives that result in a TD. Hopefully he will get another series.

Too funny. We have backed that interview up twice.

Some poor producer at ESPN is sweating bullets.

Kay played in the first half. Started 1-5 for 4 yards before those last 2 completions.

Kay helps lead all-star team to win
01/19/14 at 9:50am by Tom Groeschen

Cincinnati senior quarterback Brendon Kay threw the go-ahead touchdown pass as Team National beat Team American 31-17 on Saturday, in the third annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in Carson, Calif.

Kay, who started for the National, threw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Miami Hurricanes tight end Asante Cleveland on the team’s first drive of the second half. Kay’s TD pass broke a 14-14 tie.

Kay completed 3-of-7 passes for 51 yards and the touchdown, while South Carolina’s Connor Shaw completed 5-of-6 passes for a team-high 71 yards with an interception.

Former NFL coaches Dick Vermeil and Dennis Green coached the National and American teams, respectively.

“There were a lot of good football players on that field today, and the more good players you have the more fun it is to coach them,” Vermeil told reporters afterward. “We had one turnover and I think we went through the entire game without an illegal procedure and we had only one holding penalty. I think that shows what kids can do if they focus and really get involved mentally and emotionally.”
