I have been harping on this all year. For the life of me I cannot understand why our guards are not living at the free throw line. I understand CC's game is that of a "3 point specialist". He clearly has no desire to get to the rim. But Geron and Joe and Dixon should each be shooting 7-10 free throws per game, and that does not count free throws late in games where we are up and the other team is intentionally fouling. Even Bilas made a comment last night. It was about how aggressive we were early (posts included) and got UCONN in early foul trouble and then backed off the rest of the game. We quit attacking, started settling for jumpers, and failed to take advantage of the foul situation. The free throw line should be an absolute weapon that we are not utilizing.

Down the stretch, offensively we got what we needed almost every time.

63-66 Crawford misses wide open 3
63-66 Dixon misses wide open 3
63-68 Shaq misses layup
65-70 Nichols makes layup
67-73 Shaq makes layup
69-75 JJ makes jumper
70-75 JJ makes 2 free throws
71-75 JJ misses jumper
71-77 JJ turns the ball over on easy pass to wide open Shaq

There wasn't a bad shot in the whole bunch.

That is a small sliver at the end of a game we are losing. I am talking in respect to game as a whole. JJ, Geron, and Dixon should be getting to the line much more often than they are, especially Geron. IMO we could easily add 7 or 8 points per game if these guys were attacking the rim for 40 minutes instead of settling for jump shots.

We had them in foul trouble very early in the first half and then almost completely quit attacking for the next 25 minutes (10 minutes in first half to 5 minutes left in second).

We didn't lose this game on offense...Bottom line.

Looking down the roster I see at least five players on our team that are playing out of their natural position. I understand that personnel to some extent dictates that but it seems like we are trying to fit square pegs into round holes.

Crawford is a 2/1, playing 2/3.
Iverson is a 3/4 playing 4/3
King is a 3/2 playing 3/4
JJ is a 2/1 playing 1/2
Shaq is a 4 playing 5
Nichols is a 4 playing 4
Dixon is a 2 playing 2
Pellom is a 4 playing 4
Dom is a 5 playing 5

I imagine some will argue with my numbers and that's fine. JJ's for sure. I say he's a two because of how long it took to turn him into a pt. guard. He was much more comfortable playing the two and I think he still is. He's just so small, nobody wants him to. I do think he is more effective playing the two on offense.

You are what you can guard and last night it seems like we had a bunch of people playing the 0 position.

King cannot guard a 2...Too slow right now
Iverson will have a very hard time guarding a 2

Offensive skills don't matter as long as you have some...A good coach will find a way to make you effective on offense if you have a good skillset...If you are a center who has good handles he will put you in a position to succeed...If you are guard who can post anyone up...He will put you in a position to succeed...

I agree it would be nice if the DID, but it just isn't in their nature. As 2nd semester seniors, asking Chris to quadruple his ft attempts per game or for Geron to triple them is useless.

Chris has established himself firmly as a guy that will only shoot from the perimeter and the same seems to go for Geron (outside of monster breakaway dunks).

66% of Chris' shots are from three. His three years previous those numbers were 59%, 47% and 59%. Geron averages six fg attempts a game from 2pt land, making a little under three a game.
