A lot of Nick's points came of putbacks when we were already down 35.
Nick played 5 mins in the first half (5 pts 4 rebs)
King came in at 13:32. Memphis down 16-12. He subbed out with 11 mins. Memphis down 17-16. He had 4 pts and 1 reb.
He came in again at 8:22. Memphis down 31-20. Subbed out at 6:59. Had 1 rebound. 35-22.
Came back in at 1:55. Memphis down 47-28. Had 1 pt, 2 rebs and 1 steal. Halftime score of 50-32.
Finished with a +2 in the 1st half.
Wilson played 11 and Dom played 6.
Can't remember when exactly Wilson and Dom played (I clearly remember Wilson in the first half) but yeah, King wasn't lighting it up in teh first half, and the second half was even worse if I remember correctly.
Dom, King and Wilson were not the reason we were getting steam rolled and not the reason for the shorter rotation. That goes to Oklahoma State and Marcus Smart.
None of those players really had much to do with it. You have to stop looking at minutes played and assuming things which you do quite often. Our 3 guard line up starting getting rolled. However, anyone would have that night.
LSU playing through the bigs won, same with Oklahoma State the 2nd time.
You seriously keep attributing those wins to guards. Since we assume so much here. I'm gonna assume with King at the three we win by more and get about 4-6 more boards as well.
Look at what actually happened. Box Scores don't tell you everything. Anyone who actually watched out big wins will tell you how we won them.
I don't always trust those who watch the games either, though. Those who watch the games claimed Josh was going with a four guard offense for a large percentage over every game when it simply isn't true.
This is true too. Watching the games though allowed us to see that playing inside out was better then our guards chunking up off the dribble threes.
It also showed us that King is productive in games he's not pulled in and out 2-3 times for a combined 2 minutes. It also shows us that in Games King has played 15+ minutes he is averaging 13+ points and 5.4 rebounds per.
I also know having watched those games, he didn't just do it against a teams scrubs because no team plays their scrubs for 15 minutes a game.
I really should have just stopped my portion of this conversation. As I stated before, there is no point in having it. Too many people are different on this subject. I'm moving on, this conversation is still pointless. Discussion that never ends. Name the top 40 teams and show me one that plays 3 guard line ups for 99% of their games, and goes 4 guards ever.
I can show you several teams inside the top 25 that have freshmen contributing. Glad ours just aren't good enough. Our entire class seems to have been overrated according to Josh and some of the fans here.
Wish we had Syracuse, Kansas, Kentucky and so on on the roster this season. They have those freshmen contributing and do it well. However in those games we would have guards guarding Wiggins, Randle at times, and other 6'9-6'10 guys and you would see why we're worried about it.
Oklahoma State was guard oriented, as was Louisville. Those are our 2 top 25 wins. We were able to play great inside and match them on guard play. Other teams have beaten us with their size, second chance points, taking advantage of the wings, and our guards having to double team a bigger player which leaves an opponent open for threes or shots in general. We give up more open threes then any team in the country I think. I know our guards can defend but they are always having to help or choosing to help to try and force the turnover and it often results in an open shot.
That's really all I have to say and none of it is a lie. We get the right matchup we can go far because we play how we play and stick to it through thick and thin.
I've accepted that it is what it is. We're not gonna change anything talking about it here.
