Cincinnati Part Two... Rebounding and Defense
Welcome to the AAC!!!

Too many wide-open looks, too few shutting down the lanes, too often a failure to box out, and too many reaching fouls. We had the better athletes, they had the better shooters.

We have the worst post defense in our league and Shaq is the worst defender on our team. Nichols doesn't know how to box out under the basket. Its hard to run when you cant get a defensive rebound 9 out of 11 possessions.

Time to regroup. We have a good team and this loss will probably lead to a lot of positive changes but we gotta develop the bench, too.

Cincinnati wasn't rebounding considering we beat them on the glass. It was more poor shooting and defense against Cincinnati. Tonight it was mostly poor actually horrendous defense.

Not as many rebounds to be had when the opponent shoots 61% in the second half.

I agree. This ain't Kansas CUSA anymore Tigers. Man up to play with the Big Boyz night in/night out. Otherwise, get your @$$ handed to you on your home turf in front of all of your 18,000+ fans like you have thus far. 0-2. Get it together.

RE: Cincinnati Part Two... Rebounding and Defense
UConn hit some shots consistently as Bluto noted. They started and ended 60+ % shooting; they dipped down to around 45% in the middle 20 minutes. The Huskies shot 57% for the game. MEMPHIS shot 44%.

The Huskies hit their open looks. MEMPHIS did not. More frustrating was about 4 or 5 inside looks or layups for the TIGERS that just did NOT drop in.

The TIGERS missed 5 FTs as well.

MEMPHIS got killed in rebounding in the second half: 20 - 8 in favor of UConn. Overall, it was 34-27 for UConn. Leading TIGER rebounders were Johnson (6) and Nichols (5). Shaq had 2.

Tough loss, second conference loss at home for MEMPHIS thus far. The good news is many people were quickly writing the TIGERS off after the CIncy beatdown, assuming the UL-Temple-UConn trio would finish MEMPHIS. The TIGERS were 2-1 after the Bearcat loss.

Now the focus is:
1) defense
2) rebounding
3) finishing the short shots within 4 feet of the hoop

Hitting those 5 inside "bunnies" would have had MEMPHIS shoot 52% for the game and earn a victory.

The season is far from over, still 14 conference games left. The winner of the AAC regular season will have 4 losses or more. We shall see how things unfold.

Hard to get defensive rebounds when the other team never misses... we actually had an advantage on rebounds at the half. Shaq had a tale of 2 halves, looked like a monster in the 1st, not so much in the 2nd.

How bout the stretch where Uconn who never misses, missed 11 shots and got 9 offensive rebounds from those 11 misses.

We're not a good rebounding TEAM. How can we become one should be the discussion imo.

We did miss quite a few bunnies, Joe missed a few layups and had a bad game overall. The zone in the second half got some stops, but got us in horrible rebounding position and led to most of their offensive rebounds and putbacks. Napier was great to end the game. He would drive, everyone collapsed on him, and he was somehow able to kick out to a wide open shooter every time. This one hurt, just have to go on the road again and make it up.

Really good opponents beat you sometime. When they do beat you you will always be able to find some statistic to explain it.

It will not stop it from happening- just as they will not be able to stop Memphis from beating them sometimes.

Our fans need to enter the next level too.

Still, you can't let them have 13 offensive boards on 25 misses.

Defense and rebounding are the two reasons that we lost this one. Shooting and defense was the reason for the Cincy loss.

Defense is the common thread in both. It's ridiculous that we can't defend at home, and this one can't just be put at the feet of the guards. We let their 4 man score 23 points last night.

I hope not. We scored 1.14 pts per possession against UConn which is above our season average, and we still lost by 10. Gotta do better on D.

Our "fans" are use to playing on the biggest stage. Our "fans" are some of the most passionate ones in the country and you don't see that in a fan base unless they're already at the "next" and or top level. What gets me are certain posters who decide to make generalizations of others for whom they share a difference of opinion. Those particular "fans" need to catch up to the fact that there will ALWAYS be varying opinions within the fanbase of a top 15 program.
