Look, I don't blame the Cubs for the mascot. Rather than putting a winning team on the field, they've decided on the approach of bells and whistles - Wrigley Field "enhancements" and a mascot. Who's to blame are the brain-dead fans who keep supporting them by going to the games and buying the merchandise. Stop shoveling money at the Cubs and see how fast they change when the stands are empty. But, that will never happen, so you reap what you sow.

I think things are changing regarding fans. A few years ago, all the single tickets were sold out in hours, now, many games are not sold out and StubHub has tickets for less than $10. Ricketts is feeling the pain. This is why they are making a serious run at Tanaka.

That was a gross, immature, and insensitive act to manipulate an image that was intended to be seen by children. I am trying very hard to refrain from laughing at it.
It kind of reminds me of when Bert of Sesame Street ended up on the Bin Laden collage.
At least Bert did not have his meat hanging out. Disgusting!

Cubs continue to shoot themselves in the foot marketing wise. Pulling Peoria from their fan caravan after moving their Class A affiliate from Peoria to Kane County is not how you keep your fanbase in central Illinois when the Cardinals win the NL, move their Class A affiliate to Peoria and add a caravan stop in Peoria.
Neither Chicago baseball team markets their product particularly well but at least the White Sox try with their care team and spending $ to refurbish little league playing fields.
But the Sox don't have a fan caravan that goes anywhere outside metro Chicago and not selling your product kills attendance when selling costs so little

As far back as I can remember, which would be the seventies, the Cubs have always had better marketing than the Sox. When the Cubs were being shown on WGN, and WGN was becoming a nationwide superstation, the White Sox went from Channel 44, to subscription only SportsNet, to taking a back seat to the Cubs on WGN.
The White Sox almost ended up in Tampa. That's why the White Sox are still Chicago's other team.
It's a little closer now, with TV viewers not knowing were their team is going to be shown. WGN? Fox? CSN? PWR? CLTV? ESPN?
The White Sox already have a silly mascot of their own.
