Highly Touted QB Transfer Leaves North Texas
Brock Berglund, highly recruited out of high school and a transfer to North Texas has left the program.

Berglund was a highly regarded player out of Valor Christian in Colorado who signed with Kansas, spent a short time in junior college and then transferred to UNT in September of 2012.

Berglund was expected to contend for the starting quarterback job last season, but fell behind incumbent starter Derek Thompson and career backup Andrew McNulty in spring practice. Freshman Dajon Williams arrived in the fall and pushed Thompson for the starting job. Thompson was not the Mean Green’s starter until the week of UNT’s opener against Idaho.

The handwriting was on the wall when UNT signed JUCO transfer Josh Greer to compete for the starting job next season. Greer transferred to UNT at the semester break and will compete in spring practice.

It’s a disappointing outcome for UNT considering how highly regarded Berglund was when he arrived at UNT. He was rated among the top quarterbacks in the Class of 2011. Rivals.com had Berglund rated at No. 15 among dual-threat quarterbacks.

RE: Highly Touted QB Transfer Leaves North Texas
anyone that did not see this coming about 9+ months ago is a total and complete dunce

berglund is mentally weak and those that talked up his talent and questioned the north Texas state coaching staff about why he never got the chance to play much less start completely ignored the fact that he was passed over by two other D1-A coaches because of personal stupidity and the lack of desire to actually work and compete for a position and then when he did try to actually work and compete for a position at JuCo he was again passed up by others and choose to cut and run again

Speculation and hearsay. Nothing of substance here. Also, your credibility is shot by your refusing to refer to North Texas by its correct name, not to mention your terrible user rep.

Sounds like a QB you didn't need.. If he can't handle the pressure of being a college QB and people always challenging him for the starting nod, he'll never make it in the pros and eventually that kind of paranoia would've affected his play at UNT.

He didn't perform well enough to play at NT and decided to move on. Not unusual, and I wish him luck wherever he lands.

I do question the motives of people with no access to practice or the players, who make negative character assessments.

I'm not making any negative assessments.. I'm just going by what I know and things I've read.. I take for instance Drew Brees' "Coming Back Stronger".. He talked about when he got to San Diego, I think Flutie was there and he told Brees never let your backup see the field.. When Brees hurt his shoulder, Phillip Rivers got in, and after the season they told him hey we can re-sign you but you're going to ride the pine. So he went elsewhere with a bum shoulder.. .

One amazing story with Brock.

Just proves that some just cannot adapt to the next level. Bet some of yall have had similar situations with highly touted recruits who just didn't pan out?

I wish BB happiness and success at his next stop. He seems like a good kid.04-cheers
