In another thread I wrote ECU should copy the Oakland Raiders color scheme of black, silver and white. Ok you can have purple-black and gold trim. Also black shoes.

Our official colors have been purple and gold since 1907, 107 years. We may have "fun" with our uniforms, but we are and will always be purple and gold. Loyal and Bold we are the Purple and Gold, We are the Pirates of ECU.

If you are to incorporate black b/c of the pirate motif, then I think you have to lose either the purple or yellow. It boils down to deciding whether ECU looks like the MN Vikings or the B'More Ravens.

I would love to see some throw backs similar to the pre 1999 logo change uniforms which incorporates the black scheme and the Jolly Roger. Tie it back our Peach Bowl/Liberty Bowl era uniforms from the 90's but with a modern twist.
