No, UL Lafayette and UL-L are the official school names. Louisiana Ragin Cajuns is the nickname. Totally different things. You will still see UL Lafayette and UL-L from the Sun Belt a lot.

"Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns" was never listed in the Sun Belt Media Guide. It is today and will always be in the guide. So Louisiana will continue to promote it's athletics as "Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns" and there is not a damn thing Warhoax fans can do about it!

When you say "UL" are you talking about UL-L or ULM? So confusing since you both start with "UL" and didn't use the "proper" listing with the -L (for the Cajuns) or the M (for Monroe)

Why would UL-L fans expect other fans to use the correct term when the UL-L fans don't?

This forum needs a way for users to ban topics like they do users.

Remember when Baltimore got a CFL team and called them the Colts? Then that team in Indy exercised their very reasonable right to the trademark, and the Baltimore team ended up being officially called the CFLs or CFLers or something. The announcer would say, "And now, your Baltimore CFL...!" and everybody would yell "Colts!!!"

Anyway, this is starting to feel a lot like that.

This was the first thread since the conference backed off its idiotic stance, and it goes to Smack. This forum reminds me a lot of the SBC in general.

I find the name thing hysterical and the sensitivity of Cajun Fans even funnier. My real question to all of this is why Southwestern and Northeast became Lafayette and Monroe while Natchitoches and Hammond stayed Northwestern and Southeastern.

Should be UL-L, UL-M, UL-N, UL-H. I guess McNeese, Grambling, Nicholls, New Orleans, and La Tech are happy with their branding.

Stop trying to be something you're not. THE Universities are LSU, UGA, Alabama, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky, etc.

Even Ga Tech, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Texas A&M, Miss St. are second fiddle. The rest of us were founded as supplemental educational institutions for industry, agriculture, and/or teaching and evolved into universities as demand grew after WWII.

From what I see UL-L is a fine institution and a fellow Grad Student of mine at GS is also an Alumnus of UL-L (he's the one who tells
Boudreaux and Thibodeaux jokes all the time), but UL-L is just one of nine U of L institutions, not THE U of L institution.
