ESPN's Dave O'Brien/Jay Bilas will call Tigers' game against UConn on Thurs. Pretty sure they did Mphs @ OklaSt, and that didn't go so well.

I like when Bilas calls our games (or any games for that matter).

As a fan, I can literally go through this entire week til Thursday not giving one thought to the UConn game and it won't affect the outcome. I can even tell everyone I know that Memphis will beat UConn by 40, and it won't change how either of the teams play on Thursday.

Media attention is the same way. The only thing that matters are the players and coaches and I can guarantee Kevin Ollie isn't looking over us to the Louisville game.

Fan and media expectations will have zero impact on players when the players are completely isolated. However, it is reasonable to assume that players are part of our increasingly interconnected world and thus subject - by some degree - to fan and media influences.

I really doubt that the players are reading articles or message boards when they're not in class, doing homework, sleeping or practicing. Maybe in the off season, but these guys are busy right now.

I do not know, but my guess is they take the time to read, watch, and listen about themselves and their team. I hope they never visit a messageboard, but we know it happens.

And if the players themselves don't come on here, they for certain have friends and relatives that do and relay the good, bad and the ugly. Emphasis on bad and ugly a lot of the time. Sad.

As long as we play well. If not he's going to rip us.

13-3 UConn needs a road win against a rated good Tigers team.....Whatever they have, I expect them to bring it all on national TV....We will see what we learned from the Cincy thrashing.....

First, I highly doubt that and I think you give this ridiculous place waaaaay too much credit.

Second, what are they "relaying" that has to do with what we're talking about? "Hey Joe, you'll never guess what I read on MTO today!! Apparently Memphiscanes and some of the other posters are already talking about the LO game; I guess you can relax and not worry about UConn on Thursday." (for an example).

Ok- I read a little. Of course Drew is over there- not really trolling but commenting on our recruiting rankings (cringe).

You doubt that? Hell, the father of a former player is a well known poster here (and was posting here while his son was on the team) .

RE: Reading some UCONN stuff online
Nice post on the UConn Board >>>

http://the-boneyard.com/threads/uconn-memphis.51179/

I imagine the initial matchups will be:

Boat on Jackson, could be Napier, I know Jackson from the previous three years, he always reminded me of Kemba-lite.
Napier on Johnson, could be Boat, I don't know much about Johnson but if he is defending Napier he will have his hands full.
Kromah on Crawford, Kromah may pick up Johnson/Jackson. He usually picks up the opposing teams best guard but I can't see him defending Jackson. Would it be fair to say Crawford is your best long range threat?
Daniels on Nichols, I'd say Nichols has a better post game but Daniels is a better shooter. Nichols may be more athletic, but this will be the rare time that Daniels isn't extremely out-muscled in the post.
Center on Goodwin, no clue how to rate this one, Goodwin is likely better than UConns starter, but Brimah is capable of defending anyone with his length. Getting Goodwins defender in pick an roll positions would benefit Memphis.

UConns bench will (likely) consist of:
Giffey (SF) great shooter, good defender, glue guy
Nolan (PF/C) ups and downs, decent post game but has trouble finishing
Brimah or Olander © depending on who starts, Brimah is a fantastic shot blocker and is athletic but is a freshman. Olander is a skilled passer and a decent shooter and a senior.
Calhoun (SG) major shooting slump, but was good as a starter last year

Memphis hasn't impressed me with their ability to shoot from range. I hope UConn packs it in a bit, or UConn will be destroyed on the boards.

Is Pastner still playing the sixth man on defense? Napier may draw a tech on him if he is, lol. It just seems like a Napier type play.

So you don't think the harsh comments made on MT.org about the players or team after the first OSU and Cincy games got "relayed" by friends or relatives back to the players?

I guess it would be equally reasonable to believe they would not ever hear about what any of the sports writers, radio talking heads, or print media have to say good or bad?

And if this board is so ridiculous why do you come here so often?

I suppose you would think the players don't have time for Facebook or Twitter either considering half the students have their face buried in their phones when not in class.

What does any of that have to do with game preparation? Whatever is said AFTER a game won't affect what happened before it, right?

And I come here for the entertainment mostly, and for the rare basketball discussion when one breaks out amidst the arguing. And I think a lot of you guys give to much credit to the sway this board with its several hundred posters can have.

My post never had anything to do with game preparation. We were taking about what is posted on this board and what might get back to the players and how you disagree.

But I agree that saying nasty and harsh things about players after a game won't change what happen in that game.

Not sure what you mean with the last sentence in bold. But if you again are saying that nothing that is posted on this board ever gets back to the players is not plausible then so be it. You are entitled to believe what you want. And Anna Nicole Smith married for love.

And now you know why. 03-lmfao03-lmfao

This team is simply undisciplined. More often than not (vs top opponents), this team will attempt to win the game in the 2nd half from deep and once again you see the result...

Uconn vs Louis it is.

(01-14-2014 06:50 PM)cmt Wrote:  All the UCONN writers seem to be overlooking this Thursday and keying on the "big showdown" against Louisville Saturday. Maybe the team hasn't learned their lesson from Houston and SMU, I hope they haven't.

If they really are looking past Memphis, they could end up losing 2 by Sunday morning and be at the bottom of the AAC at 1-4.

If we come out ready, we may just blow them off the court. If we learned our lesson from Cincinnati.
